5sp Manual Stock Quarter Mile

I want to better my times on the quarter mile.

2 nights - total 7 runs and want to better current 15.3

your times and helpful tips greatly appreciated :spoton:

Shazzy, 15.3s sounds pretty slow, are you sure that the hand brake is off.LOL

Dump all excess wieght eg spare tyre and any other junk you have in the car

Carry only the fuel you need for the run(s) about a quarter of a tank

Lower the presure in your tyres, it will help the car to hook up

Practice rev and dump starts you have to find the sweet spot in the revs between just bogging down and mass wheel spin. beening a fragile 5 speed you may want to skip this one.

The colder the night the better and remember to take off the hand brake.

Last one have fun, if you are not enjoying your self ther no point being there

Shaz, practice at every set of lights, try to leave as hard as you can without spinning your wheels, you will have to slip your clutch a bit, but with standed power it will handle it. then as your driving arround practice your gear changes, so you get faster at it, you don't have to be flat to practice your changes.and most time your slower if you spin your wheels, with a bit of practice you will be running mid 14's in know time.

hope that makes sence, if not get someone down there to go for a run with you, they will be able to work out what you are doing wrong,

Shazzy, you have to treat the T5 with a bit of respect. From memory I ended up with a 14.2 stock then by the time I had 305rwkw I was looking in the low 12's but that's a different story for a different day.

Because you are stock Feather the clutch with your foot to control wheelspin when taking off. Eg as you give it WOT off the line if the wheels start to spin in first take it up with the clutch pedal whilst still giving it everything, but be careful not to ride the clutch as the minute they get hot it's game over until they are stone cold again. I know it sounds like I am contadicting myself however the idea is to get off the clutch as quick as possible. Don't dump it however get your gear off the mark and get off it. Being stock you should have not too much trouble with wheelspin

First to second is easy, the main problem with the T5 is third. I found alot of the time she does not want third (even more so with more power) the second to third is the slowest gearchange in the box. Be quick and consise whilst not thrashing the box, quick clutch applications and positive gear throws.

When doing it down the qtr you should not need to chnage into 4th (Cross the line in 3rd) which once again an extra gear change means more time lost.

The T5 is not a great box it you want to go quick, a cruising gearbox yes, racing unfortunately you are up against it from the start. This unfortuantely is what makes the auto's so quick, plus the more power you get in the manual the harder it is to get a quick time.

Practice makes perfect.

my first problem is driving with the helmet on :spoton: , can hardly hear the motor!!! and have to lower the seat... I am a shorty

I was changing at about 5000???

will definately try your hints, and I was going into 4th, so will ditch that one :gooff:

according to "the boys" my phantom dynod well at 201rwk and since first time at WB I push it further than I had been.

they say the heat was a problem this time, I know I was melting... :spoton:

tc off..

like jb said, jus kinda slip the clutch a bit..

I went for a 3k rpm slip an it worked well..

shift at 5900.

I had to hit 4th but that's an easy change to do fast anyways

keep at it!!

before I went I did a few practice launches on a spare bit o tarmac to get a feel for it

the surface makes the "take off" so different on the strip

oh well lots of practice ...
