If not then I would suggest to get one and some time on the dyno tuning. This is to maintain fuel at the main pump and prevent it being starved due to fuel sloshing around in a partially empty tank.Starvation occurred when: - Where the main pump serving the injector rail did not have sufficient capacity at 100% duty cycle to maintain fuel pressure - Under sustained full throttle applications (ie down the back straight of Pukekohe where full throttle is sustained for up to 30 seconds) the main pump would run the primer chamber dry, note this doesn't happen very often and only on certain circuits (and very unlikely on the road)... something that we didn't notice until spending a fortune on upgrading main pumps... - Partial blockage of fuel filter (that's really annoying)I don't know what the rated capacity of the fuel pump nor how much fuel you are consuming at maximum throttle at high revs - however given the symptoms you may require a bigger main pump or investigate priming pump if applicable. Used to be slight pinging just on full throttle gear change. I added an inline Bosch pump (APS ph3 style) and had the EDIT sort out a few issues... Thought all was good... until I took car out to AIR a month or so ago.I had deliberately kept fuel level low (less than 1/4 tank)This time car lost power drastically at about 5000 rpm, and pinged quite bad on a preliminary trial on my private test strip before goingf through the entrance gates.Wasn't happy. went home without any updated timeslips. Still am suspicious of the BP fuel I put in, as it was when the fiasco with supply was an issue. The other day, I noticed once again, a slight ping under full throttle, when I was down to less than 40 km to empty.....Time for a surge tank.Who's fitted one? What size would you recommend?I was thinking a 2 litre tank located in the void in front of the rear left wheel.Plenty of space, close to main tank... should be easy install.Quite a few installations I've seen are in the engine bay, but I figure with the high under hood temps in the "T" , that increased fuel temp would be detrimental?Any thoughts from the gurus?tom Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/22487-fuel-surge/#findComment-333016 Share on other sites

My Bosch pump is a bit noisy.Have a read through some of the threads on fuel surge or intank fuel pump...(do a search for wallbro fuel pump) and consider some of the suggestions. One of the suspected reasons for fuel supply issues is a relief valve on the intank swirl pot. I think there is some info on how to check for a weak (lo pressure) relief valve which may cause these issues. As I said, I'm going to fit a surge tank, as it will definitely eliminate any fuel supply issues. As I already have an auxilliary external pump, its not an expensive exercise. An alloy surge tank shouldn't cost more than $100.... seen some on Ebay $60~$80...As far as tuners go....APS in Melbourne for original Ph2 install (274 rwkw)Morpowa in Adelaide for APS IC upgrade and retune of unichip (good results 308 rwkw)and HPF in Melbourne for EDIT tunes ( 3 maps) (valet / road 260 rwkw /race >300 rwkw)Might want to consider Street_tuner in Adelaide too..... His new workshop should be complete by now..... at Gillman. He's got most knowledge of EDIT functionality.A few other SA boys have used KPM .... [Morpowa are also APS agents whereas KPM are Nizpro] Not sure of others.tom Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/22487-fuel-surge/#findComment-333034 Share on other sites
