Is it possible to install a sub in the standard location in a sedan that was not fitted with premium sound (and a subwoofer) from factory?

Is it just a matter of getting an 8" subbie, an amplifier and the premium sound parcel shelf trim/speaker grill?

Has anyone successfully done this?

The loom on the premium sound is different to the standard sound so there is not wiring in place to just buy the parts and plug then in.

If you are going to go to the trouble of installing and amp and sub I would recommend that you go aftermarket. A lot of people with the prem sound have said that the factory sub is pretty crap! I also believe that the ford parts would an arm and a leg at the local spare parts! You can buy a small 2ch amp and a 10inch sub and build a small box for less $$$ and have better results. Only issue you are going to have is wiring that amp up. You will need to splice the signal to the read speakers and get a line-level converter and also run some power to your amp. I am not really sure where you can get a remote wire for the sub, but if you have your stereo on most of the time you are in the car you can just hook it up to you acc somewhere.

Have a look at the following for one cheap and good solution!

Thanks for your excellent reply.

I was meaning that I would buy an aftermarket subwoofer speaker and amp (due to the cost and quality) but I was keen to fit it in the factory location in the parcel shelf. Is this possible?

I have currently got a new Jaycar 8" subbie that I am keen to use if possible...

Also, is the wiring in place for the tweeters in the A Pillars for the cars without them? Can I easily fit a set in the factory location?

I am running 2 Amp's and a 12'' sub off my factory stereo "NON PREMIUN.".

All I did was bought a "Receiver". Given the fact that the NON Premium decks do not have RCA outputs it then makes it essential to buy and RCA receiver to run a sub and amp off the FACTORY Deck that is.

Yes u do not need to buy the receiver if u want to upgrade the deck but if u want to keep the factory deck with the controls on the sterring wheel, then I would reccomend it. I successfully wired the kits and installed the receiver myself and am loving the sound. Let me tell u its sounds heaps better then the premium sound!!I

Also yes u can install the 8" sub as the rear metal parcel shelf as the exact measurements for a 8" subbie.

If you do this, try and get the best quality Low Level converter that you can afford. Some of the cheap ones put out a very dirty signal to the amp which is hard to measure (ie... too high) and you will blow transistors. I went through two sets out output stage trannies in my amp until I got the level right. After all the f**king around it would have been cheaper to send my ICC to that company that installs the outputs to the head unit... what is that place called again?

But yeah I ran my signal from the rear speakers, I have an amp sitting in the boot and a sub box pointing to the left of the car (seems to be louder this way)... I still need to drop the 1/3 seat back down to get a decent thump out of it.

I had maroochy car sound install my upgrades to the non premium set up and it sounds mint they used fusion line converters to run the rca's I cant tell the difference but they said the quality of the converter is essential to a good sound . in mine I have rockford fosgate amp powering an eclipse t4 12' sub , focal splits , and a ps2 with 7'' screen mounted in the pocket in front of the shifter
