Very simply, it overwrites your tables in your cars ECU with new values.

eg turbo boost now equals 20psi..........................

It loads into the ECU via the flash tuner box. Factory settings are saved into the flach tuner and are available for reverting back to at any time.

Imagine it as you are going to the dealer for them to re-flash your computer, they will plug in a device which does it for them.

But with the CAPA Edit Box you can store these tunes (ie custom tunes) for yourself to re-flash the computer at any time you like and as many times as you like.

I guess the term "Edit" comes from the fact it is using the original factory computer and "editing" some of the values to make it go better. Other means of doing this are through the use of "piggy-back" hardware which is used to bypass the factory ECU (not all of it, just the tuning bits), and another way is total replacement of the ECU and going after-market with something like a MoTEC, Autronic, Haltech ECUs (to name a very small few).

Hope this clears it up for you.

So what other parameters are adjustable with an EDIT + Custom tune??

things like the fuel Range beeping increments, no seatbelt beeping, removing the pause between gear shifts in the manual etc etc

The warnings are user configurable... you just need to know the sequence of buttons to push in the car (there was a post on the seatbelt warning a few weeks ago).

No idea about the shift points, I would have thought this is configurable in the factory ECU... I guess its worth talking to someone who tunes them... Jason has his own software (M6 XR6T)

Using SCT software you are able to change turbo parameters(desired boost, dutycycle, proportional gains, integral gains and derivative gains hence PID boost control plus the corrections ECT, IAT etc etc), timing parameters(main timing tables and corrections, no idle timing maps though, fueling(injector scaling, open loop desired AFR plus speed density calculations) and all the scalers such as rev limit speed limit, desired idle speed, diff ratio shift points etc etc.

Diff ratio shift points?

Is there a thread on the technical aspects of the CAPA Flash Tuner or others available?

How many maps can the CAPA hold? Can you just flick a switch and select different maps whilst on the go?

Thanks

Yes diff ratios and shift points can be altered. The SCT box can hold three performance tunes and the standard factory tune. It takes about 3-4min to load into your can, so no you cant just flip it on the go.

Well explained rob82. One thing I'd like to know though is if there are different versions of the capa box. eg. different operating software or generic tunes, etc. I'm looking at buying one but I want to be sure I buy the new version if there is such a thing

There are different versions of the SCT box but it will have no bearing as to what you can tune. The box itself only allows changes to be made to the standard ECU. The newer versions of software have more maps than the older versions however most edit tuners should be pretty well updated. Hope that answers your question.
