Im am just very interested as today I heard that sydney cop it bad.

Ill start it off for WA.

up to 9 kms over = 0 Demerits $50 Fine

10 - 19 kms over = 2 Demerits $100 Fine

20 - 29 kms over = 3 Demerits $150 Fine

Excesive Noise = 3 Demerits $150 Fine

Not using indicator = 1 Demerit $50 Fine

May not be 100% so please correct me if im wrong

I think 10-19kms over is 1 point not 2.. ive got one in my car but cant be assed getting it out..

dont forget 40kph over = 6 points, $350!!

Apparently the 50 zones in towns arent even signposted here in QLD as they are in NSW. Came off a "designated 60 street" onto a side street (all of which are 50 zones apparently ) 100m up and waved over.... thought it must have been a breath test!

Don't usually speed in town but I have been pinched 1-15kms over and that's $60, no point system in the NT, I dont know what the 15-30, 30-45 and over 45 penaltys are.

What penalties apply for Speeding in NSW?

If your vehicle is detected by a fixed speed camera, mobile speed camera or Police Officer and a penalty notice is issued, you will incur a fine and licence demerit points.

There are licence suspension periods, similar to the minimum disqualification periods applied by a court, for exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km/h (3 months), and by more than 45 km/h (6 months).

If police catch you speeding by more than 45km/h over the limit you may have your licence immediately suspended and confiscated at the roadside for 6 months.

The following table displays the fixed penalty notice fines for speeding as at 1st July 2005.

Exceed speed limit by

Not more than 15 km/h -3 points + $75

More than 15 km/h but not more than 30 km/h -3 points +$225

More than 30 km/h but not more than 45 km/h -4 points +$575

More than 45 km/h -6 points + $1,550

If police detect you speeding by more than 45 km/h over the limit they may immediately suspend your licence for 6 months.

Listed below are the penalties if you are convicted by a court.

On declared public holiday long weekend periods in NSW the demerit points for all speeding, seat belt, child restraint and helmet offences are doubled.

That's the one; all un-devided roads are 50 unless stated otherwise. Not a good way to learn though

In Victoria, if they catch you doing > 4kmh over the limit, they book you, then shoot you, and send the bullet-riddled gear stick knob to your family.
