I am in the market for a used BA XR8 Sedan, how do I spot an ex-police car?

What extras/differences did these have?

Also, if a car is an ex-police vehicle, should I steer clear of it?

A mate of mine has an ex-police XR8.

Look for the police mode still enabled. EG. interior lights not working when you open a door, digital speedo, indicators don't flash when you lock/unlock the car.

Where they put the lights on the roof there might be small scratches where they attach near the front doors

In the engine bay on the drivers side there might be some extra wiring looms, plugs and relays if they haven't been removed.

My mate hasn't had any problems with his and overall it's in pretty good condition. After all the police gear is removed they're just like any other falcon. You might get premium brakes on an ex-cop car, my mate did.

That's about all I can think of right now.

Easy, they all have Premium brakes fitted, only 17 inch alloys (factory cars have 18's standard, cops get 17's coz they are cheaper), reverse sensors, side airbags and finally lots of scratches etc.

You can really pick one, they look rough and the steering wheel especially looks like its had a good working over.

18" wheels aren't standard on XR's.

My friends doesn't have reverse parking sensors.

And the interior is fine.

On the MKII XR8 Sedans I think that the 18s were standard...

You might be right on the wheels. I'll agree to disagree on the other.

My mates one is late '04.

That's the one I was looking at!

I am going down to eyeball it tomorrow to check out it's condition etc.

I picked up my Ex-Cop BA XR8 last week, very happy with it.

Didn't end up getting the one above as it had a hole in the roof where an aerial used to be.. :spit:

The one I ended up with was, 2004 MKI with side airbags, rear reverse sensors, premium brakes and a set of black stripes (wasn't sure about these but they have grown on me).

Paint work and interior are in excellent condition.

Thought I would post a few pics of it..
