aiboart Member 665 Member For: 20y 1m 22d Posted 02/01/06 09:50 AM Author Share Posted 02/01/06 09:50 AM I have the Ford Premium (same as PBR upgrade brakes). The Ford OEM discs are expensive and for about the same money, the dba's appeared to have the potential to reduce the unsprung rotating mass as well as offering some other (perhaps esoteric) thermal advantages... and of course they come in different colours. (Though, the brake dust from the premo brakes will probably hide the colour in about two days). It seems though that the dba 5000 are not available for the premo brakes... too bad. I will chase up dba to see if they any plans for future availability. For those of you in the thread that are simply looking to improve the braking over the std factory brakes you may well consider the 'standard' upgrade solution, ie the PBR upgrade. There are dozens of threads advocating this line... and they are correct. I cannot fault the performance of these brakes with standard 17" wheels and tyres. They offer the maximum amount of braking possible with the standard wheels and tyres, for the least amount of weight and polar moment in the system (using conventional iron rotors). The brakes feel great and will pull you down without fade from pretty much... whatever... and do it repeatedly without fade.Regards,aa

aiboart Member 665 Member For: 20y 1m 22d Posted 02/01/06 10:14 AM Author Share Posted 02/01/06 10:14 AM (edited) The PBR route is a full set up. There are guys on the forum who can give you a good price for the kit.Numerous combinations of AM pad and rotors have been tried and I undersatand that they offer different levels of improvement over the std factory brakes for different levels of cost, however, and I stand to be corrected, none of those combinations yield the performance of the PBR setup.regards,aa Edited 02/01/06 10:22 AM by aiboart

Either replace the factory rotor with a good quality DBA slotted one and run good pads (QFM or Ferodo) to retain the stock calipers, or put aside some money and upgrade the brakes to the Performance Brakes. This consists of bigger front and rear rotors and bigger calipers (front and rear as well). From memory you can buy a new performance brake package for $1900 plus fitting. If you like I'll find out where from.DBA do release a 5000 series 2 piece rotor for the BA. I enquired through a company in Sydney that is selling the AP brake upgrade for the BA. It consisted of 365mm front DBA 5000 series rotors, 6 piston AP calipers for front, and DBA 5000 series rotors for rear and 4 piston AP calipers.Jason. If I do upgrade I'll most probably go with rotors and pads. If I go for an edit it might be wise to go for brakes too. *sigh* my poor bank account.Just to clarify, if I was to go for this option I would be going for the DBA 4000 series... yeh? If so what size rims do you have to have to fit these rotors. I have the std 17" Ford rims and have fitted the PBR performance kit and the fronts only just clear the wheel weights. The PBR fronts are 325mm diameter, so I guess they dont fit a 17" wheel.New brakes and new rims?

Regarding pads there are a zillion options. The QFM RB74 are a very hardy race pad, happy to run hot with no signs of fade and bugger all dust, no squeal, shudder or any bad traits evident.... used extensively at track days but quite fine for normal road use too. Bendix ultimates can provide a similar level of performance with more cold bite to the feel but give shed loads of dust. Ferodo 2500 are another good option but then you are starting to get expensive. The RB74s retail at about $130 a set.The (PBR) premo brake upgrade kit is available from within this site at less than $2000 all up. That provides the next step up in terms of performance as the front rotors are slightly larger and therefore the front callipers are correspondingly larger to accommodate them. Both the front and rear rotors are slotted and you also get braided lines with the PBR brake package which firms the pedal feel up a bit. But the rear rotors and callipers are exactly the same size as the standard brakes, the only difference with the rears over standard brakes are that the rotors are slotted. The PBR callipers are all coloured if that means anything to you - doesn't change the level of braking much though!Oh and dont forget to upgrade your fluid's specs to the best you can afford and flush that throughout the system, the synthetic race Penrite fluid is pretty good.Dingah
