All pretty common all pretty normal anyway I took the car in for a service on tuesday and asked for them to check it out. I picked the car up yesterday and was told that they had re-torqued the suspension and the clunk was gone! sure enogh it is, so it had nothing to do (in this case) with the diff but was almost the exact same sound as the clunking diff makes. For those with the clunk, maybe its not your diff.p.s: I have had diff clunk that resulted in 2 broken drive shafts so I do know what it sounds like

Its the diff! Im not trying to say that its the control arm, more that it may not be the diff it may be the control arms, obviously with no control arms in the ute it is your diff I had never heard of the clunking being related to the suspension that's all

The sympton was clunking from the front end. They simply tightened everything and sent me on my way - with the same clunk. Warranty fix now done with new mount and no clunk. Also previously had a clunk that WAS fixed by tightening suspension.
galconn Member 101 Member For: 19y 4m Posted 23/12/05 03:04 AM Share Posted 23/12/05 03:04 AM Rear end clunk or dull knocking noise, I've had my rear end (suspension that is) tightened up on a few occasions until this last time when I had the rear sway bar link pins replaced. Good as gold now - er well, I hope it lasts.

I waited a couple of weeks for it and booked it in for the 30K service and to have the damper fitted. End of the day I arrive to pick up the car and was told the standard Ford procedure is put a diff additive in first to see if that will cure the problem, which they did. If that doesn't work, THEN they replace the damper. If that doesn't fix it, then they can think about replacing the diff. And by the way, they forgot to do the 30K service so bring it back another day Took the car back Sat morning (they actually did the service this time though what they did is another story in itself!) and then was told it's not the diff but cracked bushings in the rear suspension that's causing the clunking. Bring it back in a couple of weeks.........again...................... You guys in the larger cities are lucky you have more than 1 Ford dealer

It's only been a couple of days so far so I hope this is the permanent fix. I'll post again if the clunk comes back. Gee, did they get it right this time
