Guest DZ. Guests Posted 01/12/02 11:30 PM Share Posted 01/12/02 11:30 PM Well, I've got one turbo in the garage. As soon as we're all settled with the new baby, I'm hoping to add the other turbo to the garage :D Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/221-turbo-whats-that/#findComment-1976 Share on other sites
Guest HoldenMan Guests Posted 16/12/02 12:22 AM Share Posted 16/12/02 12:22 AM Well no one hates it, probably because its a turbo forum, Although turbos are good, most manufacturers are moving away from them for reliability cases, take a look at the new 350z and RX8.still go the XR6T and the VLT Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/221-turbo-whats-that/#findComment-3265 Share on other sites
Guest DZ. Guests Posted 16/12/02 01:29 AM Share Posted 16/12/02 01:29 AM Turbos have come a long way from their unreliable days of the 80s - better engine management systems and advances in a whole raft of technologies I think have made them just fine. Nissan has stopped manufacturing some of its older turbo engines (SR20DET) because of meeting increasingly difficult emission requirements from Japan. There's still a possibility of turbos in the GTR and the next generation of engines like the 2.5l they use in the X-Trail.Mazda rotaries are inherently complex animals and it may have been cheaper omitting the turbo at this stage. Note that the Mazda 6 SP (or their potential high performance AWD version is expected to be a turbocharged version of the 2.3l)Subaru are also going strong with their use of turbos.Audi are using turbos in their high end performance cars (RS4, RS6)Saab and Volvo also continue to use turbos to provide enhanced driveability and performance with the Expensive Daewoo HFV6 planning to have turbo versions as well.So I wouldn't say that most manufacturers are moving away from turbos - they're just omitting them where they deem sufficient power and torque already exist in their cars, which is possible in a lot of cases with the technology available.
