Well a lot of experts giving advice and some tuners giving the experts advice.

Take whatever advice you feel suits your needs and whatever tuner suits your budget cos they are all different.

Let me see now I’ve been tuned by Simon from Extreme many times

I’ve been tuned by Barry Batton from BPT

I’ve been tuned by Ryan at APC

I’ve tested a Tune by the wog and been involved in him tuning another F6

I’ve seen and discussed tunes with Jason and witnessed his work.

Now From these tunes I can tell you without any doubt that each and every one of these tuners has a different idea and none of them agree with the other and as such they all get different results some good some bad depending on how you look at it.

As for my opinion on the best tuner? Well I have many varying views on that and I’d say I favor none of them as I said they are all different in there own way.

The sad part with all this is most people who recommend a tuner now little and have only had the one experience and as such think the tuner is GOD when they don’t know sh!t from Clay co’s they never tasted it

Tunes that go bad after a week ..WTF… the edit map cannot go bad after a week and in most cases its something mechanical like loose hose clamps etc that cause a change in performance or fuel quality etc, but sadly the tuner gets the kick in the guts for it similar to situations when an engine may fail ..It’s always the tuners fault…

The dyno results will vary wildly from dyno to dyno and who really knows why?

Is it a ploy to get bigger numbers?

Is it strapping?

Is it tire pressure?

Is it the wrong settings?

Is it the wrong intake temp?

The list goes on and on so who do you believe and are your tuners dyno graphs a true reflection of the tune or some elevated or deflated numbers?

I can show you several dyno results on my Ute and they vary wildly on the exact same tune so depending on the conversation I can show you the best or the worst ahhahahh

I can tell you some scary stories about tuners but why hang men for bad tunes when this whole edit thing is still relatively new and I can assure you that even the so called best tuners are learning every day how to make a better tune than the one they did yesterday.

Some tuners only tune and don’t get involved in the mechanical side of things like engine rebuilds, Plug gapping, mods, etc and only wish to tune the PCM yet other are happy to do and charge you for the mechanical bits and pieces. Some just send the mechanical bits out and get someone else to do them then charge you for the work.

What you should be doing before you select any tuner is work out what you really want from the tuner in the way of tuning, mechanical work and or mods.

Do you want good fuel economy?

What about low down torque?

More linear power?

Power up high not down low?

For driving on the strip or the street?

That RUSH at 2000rpm that tears the wheels off yet is actually slow?

Do you want him to gap your plugs?

Do you want just a Tune?

Do you want heaps of mods?

How far away is the tuner if you have a problem?

Do you have access to a Dyno?

Once you decide on what you want give all of the available tuners a call and see if they meet your needs and find some people who have “Actually” been tuned by them and feel them out. Don’t ask the tuner to recommend anyone co’s he will only give you a name or number of someone who is good mates or doesn’t know any better co’s it’s the only tune he has had.

I personally would recommend all of the above tuners depending on your needs as they all have come a long way in the last 12 months so it’s more a matter of what they can offer you that suits your needs better.

BTW: A good place to start looking is a Dyno days and chat with car owners and view the results live ….. And compare then to the mods and the tuners who did them. :stirthepot:

I have spoken to a couple of tuners and decided who is going to do the work on my vehicle :stirthepot:

The first tuner that I have talked to and has not told me you can have this kit for "X" amount or upgrade to this kit for "X" amount.

I like to do bit by bit to my car so it is different and not running exactly the same as everyone else.

Next thing I will be after is a custom made intercooler.

Greg, your just Mr freaking nice guy this time of year aren't u??? did your missus out your balls out last week?? Very unlike you..

Simon, You forget you altered my tune after one dyno and before the 2nd one?? It did pick up 2mph and take afr's from 10's to 12.0's.

The graphs also vary in areas other than peak HP. Amount of boost used and how long it holds the power for..

I have my direct comparrison hosted if you want a linky link?

I have always maintained I have been happy with each tune in there own right. I accept each tune for what they are and enjoy each for how they make the car react, I also dislike each tune for the same reasons..

I'll be up to see Barry for my slot 2 tune next year.. I'll see how that goes.

It's all happy families 'round here.. plus, we gotta keep you guys honest, and on your toes...... How else to we get you ppl to improve all the time and deliver to us something the next guy can't??
