Took my T for a few test runs after a bit of fine tuning, 276 rwkw. pulling nice and strong through all gears for about five mins. Got back to the workshop to put a bit more timing in it. As soon as pulled in, the thing sounded as if a rock band was under the car. clutch in or out massive amount of rattling. but still perfect gear selection and drivability(straight onto the hoist).good possibility its an input shaft bearing. has a daikin exedy clutch so I doubt its that. box is comin out tomora morn. so will know for sure then. seems like to little power to kill a box. unless it was too much vibration(typical ford harmonics).

If it was rattling at idle its probably the heatshield that runs all the way along the tunnel.

Ive had my car into Ford service 3 times for the heat shield coming loose and rattling.

Will not be an input shaft bearing, I have NEVER seen one fail. Sounds like possibly a collapsed clutch hub, or broken or loose flywheel or PP bolts. Ben.

Exactly right Mal, streched flywheel bolts, and I mean bad. replaced with 220 psi arp's cranked to 95 nm. relaped it and shes spot on. had the same thing happen to 500 hp sigma turbo with a supra 5 speed, the t56 sounded very suspect, but like you said I havent seen one let go either.

oh yeah, already had a clutch collapse. went to daiken exedy and no probs as yet. It seems a bit strange to stretch 11.9's at only 276 rwkw. but that's just like ford to engineer everything on the xr6t to the near limit. dont you think?
