Basically I think power is transferred to the auto via a flex plate and a torque convertor. Think of the flex plate as an automatic verson of a flywheel....I.e. the flexplate is on the engine side of the convertor!! If the flex plate comes loose then no so good!!

The flex plate is a circular metal plate that bolts to the rear of the crank. The torque convertor then bolts to the flex plate (usually 4 or 4 bolts) the flex plate also has the starter gear attached to the outside of it. The plate is very thin usually 1.5 to 3mm depending on the car. Automatice cars dont need a heavy fly wheel like a manual car because the torque convertors weight is enough to take the place of the flywheel.

a regular flex plate is round:

Aaron hasnt had much luck with his flex plate. I've read some threads on this. Didnt understand, but nevertheless I gathered he was not impressed with Ford.

Me no understand :spit:

What do you mean by clutch snapping? Sounds odd to me.

What type of clutch was it?

Well tim slako said that the clutch had blown also causing the bell housing to crack, I was in the car at the time and it was a very nasty noise, like glass shattering everywhere.

im running a mal wood option 3 very strong clutch but its just my mate wasnt use to the car when he drove it and tryed to put it in third pretty quick which didnt work and crunched the gear causing damage to clutch and bell housing.

Sounds like your clutch had a defect, do you know exactly which parts failed.

yeh apparently pressure plate causing the whole clutch to snap, they are maching the flywheel so no need for that and the bell housing cracked all around.
