Lol. Yeah I'd like to see you stick around, great for bouncing ideas off of etc. as well as the odd laugh :bum:

If I can get the old turbo back from Ford when they replace mine then perhaps I'd have a spare housing. I doubt they'd let me keep it though. What do they do with warranty replaced parts? Surely they'd have pulled enough GT35/40's apart by now to let me have it...

Keith you say the manta is too loud? I'm looking at going with it (cat back perhaps? should really do whole thing...would like the dump for spool). Need to ask at the cruise what zorsts people are running and have a listen!!

Steve, if you can somehow scam it back off them for cash or beer I'll compensate you generously :spoton:

what kind of power gains did you make with the Manta setup?

I seen minimal power gains up top on the same tune when I swapped from SMB 4" system to the Manta twin 3" system, but picked up quite a bit of midrange & it came on about 500rpm earlier. Might of had something to do with the 5" SMB cat having no innards, thus no backpressure :leghump:

So a dump and cat change only sounded best? I have a 5" rapid cat with 3.5" ends waiting to go in. You reckon a dump only added would sound best? That would look pretty stock I'd imagine?

No mufflers removed right?

Don't bother with 3.5" ends on a 5" body cat imo... You'd be better off just getting a 3.5" metal cat (or similar) and save the hassles of destroying cats because of excessive heat issues. The 5" cats seem to hold loads of heat & therefore collapse, hence my decision to just gut my old one after SMB replaced about 5 of them under warranty!

If you're keen on a Manta setup, hit me up next weekend at the cruise & I'll let you know what I can get them for mates rates. May be a viable option $$$ wise & it will allow for future mods should the need arise :w00t2: :w00t2:

they gave me a week to get it all sorted.. how nice of them. you can still drive the car with a canary on it.

I just totally cannot be f*cked right now, I've got the interior of the turbo ripped to bits getting sh*t painted, my f*cking computer just died tonight (using a sh*tty laptop in the meantime), and the canary just topped it off.

well they say bad luck comes in 3's? :(

If its going to be a problem, why not just replace it with a straigt through section?

The exhaust on my car is a twin 3" Manta. Much quieter and less droney then my SMB 4". Also they sound thougher IMO.

Your car is one of the best sounding XR6T's/F6's I've heared.

Re mufflers: I won't be removing the center one as I have read and been told it sounds sh¡te. I do quite like the stock sound, a little bit louder would be nice I guess.

Dont forget it isnt just for noise Steve...

The Center muffler is quite restrictive. Exhaust size drops from a 2.25" to 1.75" through the center muffler.

I had the center muffler replaced with straight through pipes when my ute was a stocker and I thought it sounded good!

Added a little bit of a burble and sounded a touch deeper... Each to their own though.

If you put a cat on a std dump and remove the centre muffler it sounds ok and it's not too loud. If you add a 4" dump and cat and remove the centre muffler then it sounds really $hit.

I had a 5" bodied catco cat on a BF dump for a few years and never had a problem and ran 360rwkw's with it. The SMB cats had issues NOT all cats. Exhaust gas temps and AFR's will affect a cat's life. Too rich and it will block, too lean or not enough ignition timing and it will get too hot and if your over temp is diabled in the tune the PCM won't dump fuel to try and cool it off.

RRRRROFLLLL :buttonit:

Thanks for the excellent advice everyone! Depending on dollars I might look at doing dump and cat only. I have heard good things about manta though. just that the full system (really do want dump after all) is $. It's twin hotdogs yeah? (whatever those are!)

Thoughts on Mild steeel vs stainless sound? I'm keeping this car for a long time I think.
