Remember, Motec is a stand alone engine management system, thats all it does and isnt concerned with all those things we take for granted in our road cars eg Controlling A/C, Body Control issues and lighting, etc etc Its highly configurable and makes no pretense about rivalling manufacturers systems, which do everything. If all you are about is setting up your car to do a specific role, usually motorsport in its many and varied shapes and forms, then it makes perfect sense. Look around you and you will now see just how much teams are using data logging and analysis to do that one thing, Go Faster... Motec's I2 Data Logging function allows you to do exactly that, make the car and driver better and faster... Try that with your Unichip piggyback.. :-)

Granted a Motec is the only way to go for a race car but as Ramon has said he wants to keep street car functionality (ie aircon) so in this case a piggy back that will enable antilag etc is probably not a bad option. Dont dismiss the ford ecu as just another OEM ecu..theres a lot they can do.

already lost my stereo steering wheel controls to the alpine hub pro so I don't mind deleting a few factory nicecities if they can be improved upon. cruise control I can tolerate loosing but air-con I refuse to go through that pain again. years ago running a possum link ecu when they first came out I didn't have aircon for a few summers, fixed this ironically enough with the said motec that im looking to hand-ball off to the typhoon. imagine middle of the day in summer in a black car, I don't think so!

I think I will at least try it out for myself, just to put and end to all this speculation. I wont cut the loom too much, matter of fact, ill do it right with an interceptor box so its a matter of pnp and swapping back to the std ecu if it all goes south and least that way the std loom wasn't damaged.

all this be happening in the next few weeks and ill keep the progress updates on the chit chat. I was getting bored and frustrated with the progress of my other build so I wanted to speed things along with the f6 and have a bit of fun for now.

Ring APS and see if you can acquire a plug in loom from a uni chip, that should allow you to hook up the motec without destroying the car harness, i wonder if you could run he original ecu in the back ground to control body functions and run the eng off the motec.

if its any consillation, i recently fitted a wolf ver4 to my rangie and since its been warming up i thought i would regas the aircon and get that working again. after much stuffing around i found out that the thermostatic control unit sends a signal to the ecu requesting and aircon idle up function and the ecu in turn provides and earth for the comp clutch relay....all this from a 1993 model car...i shudder to think what an f6 is going to be like.

maybe you could fit a carputer to send all the right signals to the chassis ecm and tell it what it want to hear....

Was that RapidXR6T on Hepburn yesterday? :spoton:

I'm away offshore at present Steve but it might have been my missus.

Seems she's the only one that drives it these days. Gonna put an end to that soon and get her a new car once the baby is born so I can have mine back.
