thnx for that. im willing to try and get opinions from everyone at this stage. i spoke to tim slako this afternoon and he said they had a gt with a wire-in motec for three weeks and they couldn't crack the air-con or cruise despite help from motec themselves. i was happy loosing a few things like knock control and standard traction control (could also enable the tc within the motec) but not the air-con, no way! im not doing that again on a brand new car!!

i have to speak to my mechanic again and the wiring guru they use (glen bakker) and see what they have to say.

spoke to a few "ford experts" around town and was told to literally throw my motec in the bin!!

Why do you want to run the motec? what advantages are you looking for over the well troden path of edit? (im not try to put you off im just interested to know)

first and foremost I have had success with it in the past and its just sitting there gathering dust. once youve had a car with anti-lag/rotational idle/wide throttle up-shift and endless tuning possibilities its hard to do without. lack of o2 sensors for antilag and race-fuel is a bonus too. also need the ecu if I want the motec dash, which again, its something you just can't do without if you can justify it.

Ramon, throw the MOTEC in the BIN :P or give it to me so I can fit it to my evo!!

You can use your Motec Dash with the standard PCM.

Do you realize you will compromise low down power/torque with the Plazmaman plenum setup? Short intake runners are no good for this engine, takes the usable power band too high to be useful. Long stroke & they don't like to rev without major bottom end strengthening ( crank etc )

I know you will do what you want to do with your car, but they have different characteristics to what your tuner has been dealing with previous. You want it to be different, it's what made wrxrw stand out.

I commend you for trying but...................... Maybe get your tuner to buy the flash software??

Good luck, I know the end result will speak for it's-self..

You can use Unichip JUST for the rotational idle and anti lag. I had it on my setup before this car and considered the option alot for this one..

Using it just for the antilag was my only thought, leaving afr/timing etc to edit....

thanks for the replies and I appreciate what your trying to say the 1.2kit looks the goods, lets just see if it performs as good as it looks and if it doesn't ill try again. I don't mind giving it three or four goes at intercoolers and plenums, they to me represent small ticket items. I hate to believe that there is only one way to go about these things, if in the end it doesn't suit my needs ill just start all over again, no biggy! but I really want this motec thing to work out, I refuse to believe it can't!

my wish list for this car includes motec dms and holinger, one out off three so far isn't bad.

sdl with pcm....mmm interesting!

Yeh he spotted me and gave me thumbs up n stuff... I waved back then got laughed at by the mrs (she just doesn't understand  )

Were u goin the other way?

That was me, my first time spotted a known forum member! I was taking my sister in law out car shopping, looking at Focus Zetecs (not XR5s yet). I was telling her about the whole forum and community thing and she thought it was hillarious!

Also saw 'ME01' at Bunnings car park in Edgewater - Red XR6T with aftermarket taillights and xft sticker on the back window

Ramon your one crazy bugger who doesn't like to be a sheep, good on ya man.

I'm sure when its all finished, and one day proves itself to be a successful setup, plenty of people will be considering it too :)

Remember, Motec is a stand alone engine management system, that's all it does and isnt concerned with all those things we take for granted in our road cars eg Controlling A/C, Body Control issues and lighting, etc etc Its highly configurable and makes no pretense about rivalling manufacturers systems, which do everything. If all you are about is setting up your car to do a specific role, usually motorsport in its many and varied shapes and forms, then it makes perfect sense. Look around you and you will now see just how much teams are using data logging and analysis to do that one thing, Go Faster... Motec's I2 Data Logging function allows you to do exactly that, make the car and driver better and faster... Try that with your Unichip piggyback.. :-)

This is how they do the advanced driving course over here. Back home we have the traffic cones and here well all they have is cows on a daily basis and it makes the driving back to camp that little bit more interesting.
