So I asked Allan his opinion as to whether it's fixable and how hard it is, and he offered his help which is greatly appreciated (what a champ! )Anyways I asked the parts department at ford for the parts needed to replace the synchros and they gave me 6 synch rings... also got a bottle of Transmax Z.Got around to Allan's place yesterday morning to have a go at it and everything went quite smoothly up to the point of pulling the gears off the shaft... this is what FELL out... which sits inside here...Amazing it still operated fairly normally... unfortunately this caused some wear on the parts within the second synchro set (in the second picture, the inside thrust ring) which doesn't apply enough friction to the gear to synch it to the main drive gears... so new synch rings didn't help my cause. Thankfully Allan had some abstract thoughts and made a replacement part out of the inner race of a bearing. It made the synchro work slightly better but I will still need to replace the worn parts. Its hard to understand how this spacer ring has broken into 4 pieces... there isnt a great deal of heat in the box, and it can't be under much load surely... the best explanation we could come up with was a manufacturing defect?? Thankfully the gearbox went together and back in the car much quicker and easier than it came out... any more nasty surprises and I think we both would have spat it.So I can't thank you enough Allan for your help, I'm very greatful and as other members have experienced you are a top bloke for your efforts to help this community. Cheers mate!
Guest newl Guests Posted 14/10/07 04:57 AM Share Posted 14/10/07 04:57 AM Kudos to Allan! Steve, I'm still surprised at how long your T5 has held on. It was bound to happen sooner or later though. At least it was being difficult and just didn't go "pop" on ya.

I have had 5th go in the past, and Kieren's did the second gear too I think

Did he put his old motor in the new one?The new ute has the built motor and he put a new F6 motor in the maunal ute which he still has. The new auto ute obviously fly's but just lacks the character of the manual. It's the end of an era and sad to see the manual back on stock power. I'm still not convinced with this auto (rap though, in fact im put off if anything lol.
