I was at the spraypainters shop today prepping all my bike stuff.

I was using the rear wing of one of those cool old all wheel drive Celicas under a car cover to leave my phone and keys so I wouldnt lose them.

Niall, who owns the shop, tells me its a targa car and I take a quick peek and got all nostalgic cos I got to have a drive of a road car back in the day.

So then the owner turns up and thankfully is not pissed at me for using his car for a shelf.

But it turns out this thing is a an ex Carlos Sainz WRC that the owner uses in the major targa events.

Its punching 600 hp and apparently it loves clutches and gearboxes. Its using a Toyota GT26 turbo too, apparently thoroughly hotted up.

He was happy for me to grab a couple of snaps.

Apparently it cost him quite a bit of money.

Was a great joy of my childhood going out with my dad to the wrc events.he was one of the blokes that went down the course and taped off side roads so the wrc guys didnt go down the wrong roads. Had some bloody good vantage points at times.remember one time being right on a crest and watching them hit it at 150 plus was awesome!!! Was about that era too Phil and that castrol themed car was a favourite:)

My first ever dream car. In TRD/castrol colours. Had pictures of them everywhere in my room as a kid. cept the twin headlight model. 'Ol Neil Bates and Corel Taylor.

Loved the bonnets, even though top mounts surly cant be that efficient.

*sigh*

Its water to air intercooled. Theres a ton of cooling in the nose including water sprays for extra coolage.

My fave memory is Sainz rolling one of these and then blazing off down the track as soon as the wheels hit the ground.
