Can help prevent a surge in first start (was an issue with our race motor but tolerances were a lot finer on that) but this wouldnt be an issue with these motors. Also means your oil doesn't drop on the stick by 1/8" after changing/starting it. Again, not much of an issue. And messy if you have a horizontal filter. Totally unnecessary and not recommended due the risk of contaminating the clean filter.the oil filter on these motors doesn't see full engine oil flow so even with an empty filter on start up the important spinning bits are still coated in the important slippery wet stuff. 7 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Or the just do it anyway and the only benifit is your priming the filter a little and the lines fill on every startup anyway. Not sure.As for the engine oil filter I think it benifits from being fully filled and has an anti drainback valve for future startups. I fill it about halfway before installing it anyway.
