It seems to be a reaction in the actual plastic overtime to heat in relation to the silicon % in the plastic mix, to stop it being super fragile.

With $$$$ coolant it seems to stay ok, but cheap coolants turn it brown

I did my own coolant change as noticed header tank was starting to get scummy.

In the end the slug came back.

So did this with plasidip

In the end I brought a SP Flushing gun and pull radiator hose off on hot side.

Removed thermostat and and flushed the sh*t out of it.

New header tank and it has stayed spot on.
