Link is working. I watched it 10 times again and then dragged myself away from the page.

We got to meet up again Steve and do a rerun with a better quality dash cam please. :P

Yeah need to do a few runs with passenger filming on HD phone. Dashcam is fisheye and grainy!

Watch out everyone, we're not "safe enough" yet so more cameras are coming

Road toll response: WA Government to spend $3.2 million on fixed speed cameras

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-01-05/wa-road-toll-tackled-by-new-strategy/6000888

One comment on Facebook that pointed out something I hadn't thought of in the speed camera debate yet:

  Quote

Its a basic fallacy, the slowing down will automatically make your driving safer. This instils the belief that safety comes largely from speed and then drivers no longer feel the need to increase skill, becoming complacent that they are driving slow and so all is good, leading to a vicious cycle, where low skilled drivers are having their lack of skill and slow driving reinforced as acceptable causing further decay in road safety due to unskilled drivers

I tend to drive at about 5 over the limit quite often on highways. I can tell you I'm paying bloody good attention to the road, looking for bushes etc on the sides that might have a camera in them. I'd rather just be looking at the road ahead exclusively (as well as traffic approaching in mirrors) but of course I'd be a poor man indeed with all the green letters I'd be getting.

Hell, it bugs me when I'm being talked to in the car as that is distracting as well, same as talking on the phone. Cruises are the only exception to the rule as I'm on high alert then anyway and leaving extra large safety margins. Especially around Marco and his flamethrower.

What bullsh*t reasoning this is :

So millions is being spent to make people want to slow down on the knowledge that speed cameras exist,

not by knowledge that speeding is more dangerous or to want to be safer drivers. I sure hope Liza Harvey also stands up for the poor guys that end up crashing before they reach the speed camera

The extra money is better spent on keep cool and enjoy the ride TV campaigns, hospital visits for high school children and P Plate car restrictions because things like this actively teach us to drive slower by nature rather than infringements that come in after the speeding has been done.
