For the guys who still drive Manuals, what clutches have you upgraded to? NPC? Mal Wood?

After many years of abuse the stock twin plate is about give up the ghost.

I have a Mal Wood Option 3+ in my turbo, nice clutch. Plenty of bite but still had nice road manners. I've been told the option 5 is similar in terms of driveablility and street manners...but I just read it's a track only car now...well that changes things. I'd look into what Aaron is suggesting.

In terms of replacement clutches I would recommend either the NPC twin 11" or the MWA Opt5. I have the older style with twin clutch hubs. It works very well but is tricky to install without tweaking the hubs. Toad's has the newer style with the splined clutch plates and single hub (think motorcycle clutch but only two frictions) it's a dream to install and work very very well.

Otherwise tried and true as Aaron mention (if you current clutch isn't too far gone, replacement AP clutch parts are BS expensive and will push the rebuild cost well past a new clutch)

Sincerely

A guy who drives an Auto now.

So its not as simple as does it clear.

4 piston brembo on my VE company car. Silver is stealth.

Cheers for the advice! That kinda sucks that there's nothing the same (or relatively close)...it would be easier when asking, but I guess I just gotta hope the company I purchase rims off have had customers with an FG and Brembos lol Meh....I'll deal with it when the time comes I guess!

Also I do like the silver....but yeah its pretty stealth and therefore not super noticeable....If I'm buying brembos I wont be doing it to be stealth...I want people to see them and get jealous hahahaha...so I would choose a nice bright colour! Yellow is my fave, but on a nitro car it might look tacky (although I seen a members avatar which is blueprint (or maybe its nitro) and he has the big yellow harrop brakes which didn't look too bad)....but having nothing else yellow on my car I think I would just stick to the traditional red and be boring lol Or maybe I'll be the first and paint them nitro blue! ;)

Have a look through this thread over on Australian Ford Forums Pete. Should give you plenty of info relating to wheel clearance for FG Brembo's.

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11310061

Cheers dowen (I don't know your name, so I will call you by your username lol)....I actually have read that thread already, and its very informative...only issue is there isn't much 18's (and I don't think there are many) that clear the brembos, but I will have to reread the thread later and write down all the different models of interest!

From what's on there my choice would be the Enkei RPF1, but I think in the required offset (or even all of them), they are only available in silver and I want black or dark grey rims this time round, so that would be more money trying to paint them and then you would paint over the Enkei symbol which kinda ruins it for me....they have other designs that I like better, but not sure if they clear brembos (PF01, RP03, GTC01 and the VR5) but again most are only available in silver :(

Peter, I am not sure how set you are on getting Brembo brake kits.

If you are after something different, have a look at this page:

XYZ

They even provide templates that can be printed and cut out. This allows you to use as a guideline to see if your rims will fit with the kits on.

Just a thought.

They have Red, Yellow, Gold, black and a choice to choose any colour you want(but that is if you order from the US)

These make me a bit jealous

are they like 6 or 8 piston ones or something? if they make you jealous I assume AP racing is better than brembo...

Does look interesting....but I feel like I read a thread ages ago regarding these and people said they aren't that much cheaper and you are better off going the proven brembo path. But that thread was probably super old and maybe others have tried with success!

And yeah you know my financial situation, so this wont be happening any time soon lol....but appreciate the advice anyways :)

It may not even happen at all, but I would like my next rims to at least have the option to be able to run brembos...if I ever fall into some monies!

Also on a side note Marco...I think in that 'rims that clear brembos' thread that dowen put up...there was mention of Matt's new AP racing calipers to suit FG standard rotors for the peeps like yourself who want to keep OEM rims....I think I read 7K or some sh!t lol and if that's for the fronts only then that's gotta be a joke right! stuff that, I'd rather just buy brembos or PBR-M full set and still have some coin left over for the required aftermarket 19's or 20's LOL (but I may have read the 7K price wrong?)

Matt is also working on a 6 piston Brembo front kit to fit under standard wheels mate. The name's Dan by the way.

^^^ Interesting .... some people will be very happy then I suppose... I think If I ever committed I would just prefer standard brembo setup (if its cheaper) cause I would assume Matt needs to charge a premium to cover the costs of development, etc

Plus wouldn't the larger 355mm rotors have benefit over the 322 stock ones? (I assume he's doing the same scenario in that he's developing a caliper to suit stock rotors).

Meh....as mentioned wont affect me too much cause I'm always poor lol

Cheers DAN! hahah

What Matt will be doing is developing a bracket and disc combination that positions them in further towards the engine. Then it will clear the rim spokes.

You read that in one of the brake threads that I was posting in. The kit that Matthew is putting together is the AP Racing 4 pot which should fit in the standard rims with modified brackets and as far as I am aware, 7k is not the price tag.

It would be something around the 2.5-3k mark, but this has not been confirmed just yet.

More info:

AP racing kit in development and will come into production soon.
4 piston caliper which will go onto the 322mm rotor.
Will fit under the 17" wheels as well.
