Sounds like what you'd want in a new diff anyway, great input!

Been looking at options for my rims.

I really loved the look of the full black plastidipped wheels but didn't like the way the textured surface held dirt and sand.

So I peeled the plastidip off the lips a few months back but was never completely happy with the look so I looked into powder coating and whatnot but in the end I opted for the $60 DIY option and am recoating the lips today.

Couple of lessons learnt today.

1) wax and grease remover is great for making sure everything is spot on clean prior to coating but the existing plastidip coating didn't like it at all and rubbed off like it was thinners. No stress though, just resprayed affected areas.

2) my shiny tyre stuff won't let masking tape stick to the tyre.

But on the same token, neither does the plastidip so clean up should be a piece of piss.

Couple more coats and then I'm done.

Cheers for the tips. Was wondering about an easy way to get plastidip off I bought some secondhand rims that someone has dipped roughly and there is a bit of overspray to get rid of

Btw can you use those strong mag wheel cleaner sprays or will it take off the plastidip?

If it's plastidip mate, you just pick at it with your fingernail or a toothpick and once you get an edge, it'll just peel off like a real thin layer of shrink wrap.

Seeing how easy wax and grease remover broke down the plastidip, I wouldn't use anything other than soapy water to clean it.

Really mate, it's that easy to spray on, if it's a bit rough, you might want to just peel it off and redo it.

I reckon 3 cans would probably do a set of wheels, I used 4 originally to be sure.

1.5 today for the lips and a quick recoat of the rest.

I answered this for GeGe6 via pm, but for anyone else who might be interested to know my experience I'll post it here too.

Firstly, I can highly recommend anyone with any diff related issues or questions to speak to Mel from WA diff centre. The guy knows what he's on about about doesn't spin lots of BS. Honest bloke who genuinely wants to see you happy. I had my diff rebuilt by them with a TrueTrac added and all new seals and bearings. Since having it rebuilt my diff is as quiet as a mouse. No whining, even with a solid centre diff bush.

The TrueTrac is a nice bit of kit, feels nice and smooth...but I think I'd be lying if I said I've noticed a night and day difference between it and the standard lsd. My standard lsd always hooked up fine. So take that how you will, and others experience may differ, but I'm definitely happy with the work I had done at WA diff centre.

Same no significant difference with the truetrak....but good piece of mind knowing you have it :-)
