When the car comes on boost I get a loud tapping noise from under the bonnet, does anyone know wha tthe prob could be, it sounds like the tappets in my old gemini but that's not it I dont think

It onkly happens on boost as soon as the turbo comes on

I posted this on the other forum, but my 2c, again..

If the noise is consistant, and rises with engine rpm, it's mechanical.

Listen under the bonnet whilst idling, get someone to rev it up. See if the noise is there whislt stationary and revving. If it is, it's not pinging.

'Tapping' doesn't sound like pinging. Pinging sounds like someone throwing a hammer around under the bonnet, or marbles, and the noise is never consistant.

How much boost is it running? Safe afr's mean nothing. 25psi on safe afr's will blow an engine. Cylinder pressure is very dangerous.

Cars will make roughly the same power (sometimes they make more..

) with less boost and more timing than they do with more boost and less timing.

Sounds like something is bent to me.

Yes, that will be covered under warranty.

An exhaust leak in that area is a reasonably common problem.

Mine had the tapping noise, mostly when cold and turned out to be a manifold/exhaust connection needing tightening.

Once I was able to get the dealer to hear it they fixed it fine

They still shouldnt charge you as long as you got it serviced by an authorised agent or dealer
