adm Member 5 Member For: 19y 5m 30d Location: London, UK Posted 14/12/05 10:13 AM Share Posted 14/12/05 10:13 AM I currently have an E46 M3 and I don't think you can compare the sound of the M3s flat six to a standard Boxster six; I.e not the S; although the sound of a 996/997 is in a different league. 292kW at the flywheel from a naturally aspirated six is unbelievable - you've got to hear it to believe it. My biased view is that the M3 is an amazing car that can take 4 adults in comfort and has a boot; you can't do that in a Boxster; that's why I've got one while I'm here in the UK.The problem with owning BMs and Porsches in Australia is the short warranty and the cost of servicing/repairs; there is no way I would own such a car in Australia. But then again if you've got lots of money to throw away - be my guest. My opinion is buy the car of the country/region; when I get back to Oz next March I'm buying a T cos its the car designed and built in the country for local conditions and you get better bang for your buck. Go help your mate waste his cash; we all know on this forum who has made the intelligent decision. If he must buy Euro then recommend an E46 M3; not a Boxster. Do you need a muscle car to be a bloke or sumfin.....your preference might be to muscle cars such as camaros and turbo falcs and yes they are a bloody good cars and I like them too, but stupid comments like that only make you seem jelous because you can't have a ferrari or the likes. Go to a porshe dealer and test drive one then tell me its a fags car...IMO Being a car enthusiest is all about appreciating cars not calling great cars fags cars just cause you cant have one.adm, I own a M3 in australia and I don't think the warranty is a problem, the trick is to spend the extra 1k at the dealer and get it extended, my M3 is 2yrs old and the only thing that has gone wrong is the silly tyre inflation warning light and a rear wheel alignment problem that chewed my new $800 tyres in 5000km . I know many people who own bmw's that find them extremely reliable. I also agree that a M3 is a better choice than a boxter S. If we are actually moving, then I slaughter him, not just beat him.I dont care if the figures say 5.7 seconds - a properly driven standard manual T will kill it.I doubt an auto would have much of a problem either! Also, in the wet, you will find Boxster drivers often being quite careful. They are still subject to occasional 90 degree snap-oversteer like the Porsches of old. (Ask me how I know....).When my friend took my Mk1 and Mk2 for a spin, his first comment was "sh1t, its powerful". I have no issues lining up against any Boxster - and Im not edited. As said before and will say it again. There is way more to a car then some acceleration. Believe it or not, some people turn left, right and even brake frequently. Thanks everyone for a great laugh at your awesome car comparison Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/21846-boxter-porsches/page/4/#findComment-325011 Share on other sites

I have never driven one but have heard they are quite good. Just interested to know if he has considered this what were his thoughts? Its like the same logic in why buy a Expensive Daewoo in the 1st place!! gilto Member 218 Member For: 17y 11m 10d Gender: Male Posted 29/09/07 04:46 AM Share Posted 29/09/07 04:46 AM I have driven the Z4M, 350Z, Merc SLK 55, Boxster S with the 3.2L and Boxster S with the 3.4L. I was even in the process of ordering the 3.4L...A 3.4 Boxster 987 will be my next car. I love my T but it's not in the same league as a Porsche.0-100Km and 1/4 mile times are only 1 point of a performance car. 1 other point is handling and the Porsche wins hands down. It also wins in the response department, looks department, build quality department, features department and the list goes on.You can't compare a $45,000 aussie sedan to a $100,000+ euro sports car.I can tell you around Sydney the Boxster S feels much quicker anyways...in the manual. (only option in my opinion on a proper sports car - I agree the auto is slow!)Some people are comparing modded T's to the stock Boxster S which is wrong. What if I get my 987 S eventually and twin tubo it like a few in Europe?? I think they do 0-100Km in 3.5 seconds flat! Would anybody in there T's like to take me on at the lights then???????? C'mon I'll even put my money where my mouth is....you can have all the power you like....but you still won't get anywhere near me!Please don't think I am mocking the T's. I LOVE them! In my opinion they are about the best value for money cars you can get. I also think this about the 987 S Boxster. (and mine optioned up on road came to $166,000!!!!!)A porsche Boxster S is far more exclusive. If I am taking a girl out for example I think I know which car she would prefer to be in.....I say lets compare apples to apples...Boxster S' to Merc SLK 55's (the second best from what I drove in my opinion) and T's to SS' (the T wins hands down in my opinion - that's why I have one - until I am in a better position to acquire that Boxster...There would be nothing better than saying you drive a Porsche!Go the Boxster S and the T......2 AWESOME cars !!!!!!
