hello people just become a member a few days ago as I brought a new XR8 MkII,Envi,18" alloys, premo sound,6 speed man a month ago

I have a few questions and issues I want to ask you guys as I'am getting the run around with ford

First up I have never owned a manual but got a bit of experence driving a manual I.e. work utes and customers cars. but every time I drive the xr8 9 times outa 10 I get a inouying and bad clunk in the diff (sounds like diff slap) is it norm or I doing it wrong like maybe not fast enough or not at the right rev's.

also when the car is at running temp I notice that when I'am at a standstill the motor seems to have slight miss you can fell it through the car and the tacho moves up and down with the miss.spoke to ford and they say wait till it's done a few more k's and see iff it smooths out.I don't think it's normal wheter the motors done 1000km our 99,000km.I could be wrong though has any one else had this problem.

and lastly my gear stick seems to vibrate at about 100km/h again ford said this to be normal is this true.

thanks for your input,surport

Hi there

welcome to the forums

and the obsession.... :spoton:

I have '04 5sp man.

diff clunk is quite standard,

for me after 3000k checkup and "good run in" its not an issue.

after 15k service a very noticeable improvement all round.

how many K's have you got to?

The only way to get rid of the diff clunk is to change gears smoothly, and above 4000rpm.

Why anyone would buy a performance car and change under 5000rpm is beyond me anyway..

72,000kms later and I still have the rough idle you are talking about. My first XR had it as well from day one till the day it died at 50,000kms.

Infact I've never got it looked at, might get onto it this time around.

I got a T5, and the gear stick constantly vibrates, I think this is normal, it's plugged right into a gearbox...

I,ve done close to 5000k's.Just a bit worried diff won't take to much more of it and ford won't replace it under warrenty cause they well blame me for not gear changing right

I have had 2 diffs replaced under warranty for clunking, the first one started clunking at about 3000km mark and by 4000 it had broken the left and center drive shafts the second one started clunking about 2000km after having it replaced and I went to ford and they replaced it again before it broke 3000km latter a bolt in the control arm broke which pretty much pulled the diff apart and meant I got a new housing and the clunk has not reappeared since

best thing to do is figure out when it is happening and then that way when you have to show your dealer you know how to reproduce it... generally I think the clunk is on one side, try to figure out which side it sounds like its comming from aswell

100km in 6th it is normal, 5th doesnt seem to vibrate near as much

at about 110-120 6th seems to smoothen out

when in doubt... go back to the dealer.. and demonstrate the prob and make sure it is documented that you are concerned and keep a copy.

Its your money and your warranty...

Just done 3000km on a 6sp manual MkII and reported diff clunk to the service guys (in writing of course!).

Seems its a no cost option. They reckon its normal back lash in the diff that's more noticeable with a manual. They also reckon the independant rear end suspension also adds to the noise 'casue the diff connects more directly to the body. Bit sad given the rest of the drive train is a sweat thing to live with.

It may well be normal but I'm not so sure of the service guys explanation. I've driven a lot of rear wheel drive manuals in other makes with IRS and they've been smooth as.

I also got my turbo in oct and got a new diff 2 weeks later as the owner b4 me had some fun in my car.... the low idle is from sh*t in your throttle body or the computer needs re programing.... mine had the same problem when I first got it and the loq oil pressure sound kept on comming on... just ask 2 get the upgrade on your computer but the only problem with that is that they might give u the standard 5psi insted of the old 8-12 psi... I could notice alot of difference when I got my car back but now it goes like a camry and I cant remember what it used 2 go like ;)
