hi,

after deciding on the purchase of an xr6 turbo, is was jus wondering, if an auto T would make the same fluttering sound, from the blow off valve, as a manual T would, wen u are shifting gears through tip tronic mode ? if not, how would u actually make it flutter ?

:)

I think the fluttering you are talking about, is the bov not working properly, sometimes they stick and you get a flutter through the impeller when the air gets pushed back when the buttewrfly gets shut. or some big power it might not be big enough. imo the auto makes it when you back off fast if it is sticking.

im not quite sure, but I think the BOV makes the fluttering noise, when acceleration pressure is released. So I assumed that, since in tip tronic u dont get your foot off the accelerator, there woudnt be a flutter.

The only time the turbocharger/wastegate will flutter is when the throttle is closed while the turbo is spooled/spooling/pressurising.

Therefore, a manual car will flutter a lot more, as you lift off the throttle when you change gears.

And when using the tip-tronic in a auto, it will not flutter, as the throttle is staying open, and therefore the turbo is still pressurising.

Theoretically, its not the turbocharger fluttering, its the air reverberating off the intake wheel on the turbocharger.

Hope this helps.

Only way you will get a flutter in an auto

Hold it in first gear till it gets to about 5500 rpm then release throttle

you will get a slight flutter but not as much as in the manual

happy fluttering :useless:
