I personally never skip downshift into any gear, and only skip upshift into fourth. I also never neutral coast. It never fails to amaze me that some "behaviours" that people say they would accept in a truck but not in a car, if done while under instruction, would see them never pass their heavy vehicle test in the first place. WBT56 Mal Wood Automotive Member 457 Member For: 22y 3m Gender: Male Posted 05/12/05 11:19 AM Share Posted 05/12/05 11:19 AM ...No I don't skip shift in to fifth... always change in order up and down the gearbox... I get the crunch into 5th mostly when entering a freeway and under heavier acceleration than normal as I attempt merge with the traffic...<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Do you recall when it first did it? Fifth is a very small blocker ring, and if you completely muff the shift once it may be all over, it is nowhere near as forgiving as second, for example. The FBW throttle does not help either, particularly during a "busy" shift. Remember, the fifth outer hub and blocker ring from a BA will fit straight back into every T5 back to 1979, and it has never been a problem before, even the Brutes do not kill 5th blockers, it is just that every BA box with a dodgy 5th that I have pulled down, the owner has admitted to skip shifting. (ps the above truck comment was not directed at you, you reminded me of earlier comments by others). Ben.

Posted 05/12/05 07:33 PM Author Share Posted 05/12/05 07:33 PM Do you recall when it first did it? Yeah... I reckon about 4 or 5 days after I picked up the car from where I bought it from... as I said it happens very infrequently, if I am intentionally gentle changing in to 5th then as a rule there is no crunch... but then at other times as stated above it cruches... I have the car booked in on the 12th at a dealer for them to have a look at so we will see what the go is there... wish I had known of this site before I bought my car... I wouldn't have bought a 5speed...Jack

Posted 13/12/05 01:31 PM Author Share Posted 13/12/05 01:31 PM Hey...For those that are interested, my car was given to Knox Ford on Monday 12th (first day of my holidays from work) and told service manager what the problem was, they had my car all day. They ended up pulling out the gearbox and replacing the shifter block. Seems to have fixed the problem which is excellent and but it has also made the shift feel heaps tighter as well which once again is heaps better than it was all at no cost to me! Never had a car with a factory warranty so that was nice...CheersJack

As I had never driven another manual ford in my life other than my own I thought it was normal... but it isn't, I tell you now the change it has made to the 'feel' of the shift is brilliant, more direct and far more postive.CatchJack
