Gday all.

Just picked up myself an fpv gauge pod and two autometer cobalt gauges. Ive got all the info I need to install from the forum ( :tease: ), I just need to confirm how you guys actually mount the gauges in the pod. I figure you need to trim the outer ring to accept the cobalts, but did you cut the two golds shafts so it will fit? If so ho do you bolt the gauges in without them? Use only one?

And ford part say I cant get the two ring inserts for the back of the pods? Is this true? No big deal becuse I can scratch build something to fit it anyway.

Cheers

cant wait to get them in :msm:

That looks a bit like a "Dodgy Brothers" back yard fit.

Why would you use both bezels? Should use one or the other, I would have thought.

So what's the issue?

Is the depth of the autometer gauge too long to fit inside the FPV pod?

I installed VDO gauges. The plastic bodied gauge (Engine Oil Temp) fits straight in, and it even has the screw mounts in the right spot to secure the gauge from the rear of the FORD FPV pod.

For the metal bodied VDO boost gauge, which has threaded studs for mounting, I made a small aluminium adapter secured to the gauge studs to provide the mounting holes in the correct place for the FPV pod.

As the boost gauge was slightly longer, the lamp holder would foul on the rear of the pod, so I modified the lamp holder to reduce it's overall extension from the rear of the gauge.

Both gauges now fit flush with the FPV pod front lip, and are secured from the rear of the pod with M3 screws, which get hidden by the rear semi-circular satin-chrome mouldings. The FPV front satin-chrome bezel simply clips over the gauge lip and sits fluch with the pod.

To get the blue illumination, I replaced the the bulb with a small piece of veroboard fitted with several "High intensity" Blue LEDs to distribute the light around the perimeter.

Bit of mucking around, but I got a reasonably good factory look (VDO supplies the FORD dash) at good price (except for the cost of the FPV pod... )

Gauges only cost me $110 for the pair. Leds came in a packet, ( $8 ) and I used the others for the window switches)

night time shot - not best quality.... (haven't got a steady hand for time lapse shot)

I fitted cobalts in mine, I just cut the bolts off the back of the guage and wrapped a couple of rubber bands around the guage, and when you push the guage into the cup, it'll hold it... I used the bezels on the cobalts, and it looks good. you should be able to get the bezels for the back too...
