Well I'll be the one to disagree :pinch:

So regardless of what the law is an any country around the globe, we should just sit back and accept what would appear to be a harsh sencence for a minor crime

Singapore is a soverign nation. What do you suggest people do about it, rather than sit around as you put it. Does Singapore have the reciprocal right to turn our laws over if it finds them objectionable? Can they have a right to place pressure on our government to take action against you if they dont happent to agree with your viewpoint or do you think Australians opinions are somehow superior to theirs?

You guys are just killing me

So no matter what happens anywhere on the globe, it's OK as long as it is the law in the country in question :fool:

What are we doing in Iraq and Afghanistan, let the Taliban and Saddam have some fun, and hey, they will just make sure that enact some laws to cover their activities, because then it's OK.

So if Singapore or some other country had a law directing some other form of mutilation as punishment, that would be OK then, just like stoning in some nations in Africa, it's the law there so it must be OK.

The whole point of an international debate, is to influence others to see a different point of view, something I for one am happy that Australia have managed to do with regard to the totally unjust MANDATORY death sentence handed to this young guy who made a mistake, and should be punished - But not by losing his life.

Turn our objectionable laws over? what a joke, what? they going to insist we hang their country man cause jail isnt their law, wake up.

And I dont think we have superior veiws, just dont like pathetic attempts at justifying murder by calling it law.

Hope you never speed, cause it might kill someone :nono:

Just like Van Nguen, he may have killed someone, but you never know :nono:

If Van Nuyen had not been of Vietnames origin, would you views have been different?

I think Australains are more readily accepting death for Van Nguyen because he is asian.

Lastly, I having travelled extensively in the US, I must say that we have to be careful not to become a miniature US, because there is nothing to strive for over there. Just look at the stats. Poverty , crime, low standard of living (more crime) or the unfortunate ones. death penalty, etc.etc. Is this really the free and equitable Australia that we want? Think about it!!!!!!!!!!

We should be able to discuss the issues here without personal attacs :nono:
