What Air Filter To Get?

I just installed a K&N filter into the ute and a think there's a slight more roar in the high revs but definately increased flutter noise. Could never really hear it before but can now. As for more performance, too early to tell. If anything, a slight increase in acceleration but I'm only going by 'the seat of my pants' feel :-)

Could anyone confirm the part number for the k&N xr6T. I just want to be 100% certain as the rubber frame wasn't a totally perfect fit. Was wondering if this is normal.

If a filter breathes better,it cant filter as good

vik...you would think

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Not true....

All depends on the filter....

K&N have the market through marketing not really performance wise.....

Although a heap of people will swear by them........

Filters like unifilter, born out of protecting dirt bikes, filter much better and breathe better at the same time...

Their job is pretty simple, unifilter foam is made of thousands of hexagons all over each other essentially making a maze to get through the other side... all this twisting and changing of direction of air makes the dust drop out and stay in the filter/filter oil.

K&N tries to do a similar thing using the layers of wire mesh and then having cotton guaze oiled to trap the dirt. It just won't perform as well....

If you ever have a chance to go in the pits of the V8 supercars, ignore the stickers on the side and look what is filtering the air on their cars........

Good point

I have the BMC (as stated earlier) and it is difficult to fit... it is much thicker around the edge... but you can confirm if it is sealing properly by looking at the inside of the top lid and seeing how clean it is... use a white cloth it should wipe relatively clean and dry.

I need to clean my BMC again very soon (you can see it is doing its job!)
