Hi XR6NA, I used to own a BA XR6 n/a about 3 weeks ago. I also used to drive BA XTs for work sometimes. BA XR6 definitely feels punchier off the line (or maybe the XTs at work were just abused too much :nono: and I felt the XR6 n/a handled better because of the wider tyres, especially on cornering. As far as aesthetics are concerned, BA XR6 wins hands down. I loved the interior and the XR dash. One of the best dashes I've ever had the pleasure to be aquainted with. So, all up, I think you can't go wrong for day-to-day driving getting a BA XR6 n/a. I changed over to the BF XR6 Turbo. And I am glad I did. The tonal thrum of the exhaust, enormous torque over the XT and the lightning acceleration will sell you on it. After I got the XR6T, I'd wished I'd gone for that initially rather than the n/a. If you're in the market for a BA rather than the BF, then go for the T because the BA T comes standard with LSD (good for cornering where one wheel will go faster than the other), traction control (a must on wet roads with the power the T delivers) and more power kW and torque Nm (peak torque also last longer from 2000rpm to about 4000 rpm). The BA XR6 Mk II come with traction control but the Mk Is did not (which is what I had). I had to be careful not to spin the wheels on wet roads without traction control. Also, the BA XR6s Mk I and II don't come with LSD as standard (though you can option it up). Also the brakes were pretty crap sometimes. I had lots of brake shudder on my Mk I. Don't let that put you off though, because plenty of other guys on this forum have not had issues with their brakes. I reckon because mine was one of the first off the line (Oct 2002 plates) that it had a large swag of teething problems. BF is another story altogether (pretty good so far - I might add) ....

Hi EvilDaifu,

Thanks for your feedback. I would love to go the turbo but I can't afford it. That's why I am looking at the XR6. If I can't have the go at the moment at least I can have the looks. Hopefully for my next car I will be able to get the turbo. Now all I have to do is sell my current car.

There is not a lot in it to be honest. One difference I could spot between my Fairmont and the XR6 is the paunchiness off the line (3.45 vs. 3.23 diff). But from about 40km/h you won’t spot the difference.

This might sound weird but I think the higher gearing suits the NA engine better in the top end. This might explain why the XT is a bit quicker over 400m. I have seen a stock XT run a 15.23 at the Motorplex and on the same night a man XR6 did a best of 15.1x.

From a rolling start (about 40km/h) I can stay a car length ahead of a stock 185kw VS Clubsport Auto until my car changed into 3rd, then the V8 starts to make ground slowly :spoton: They go pretty good for a six! :gooff:

XR6NA, have you considered a Fairmont?? Much better equipped then a stock XR6 and you can save yourself a few thousand easy. Put that towards some wheels, tint, lowering etc! BTW if you are in Perth I know where you can get an immaculate Blue Pearl Fairmont with the bling for a bargain price! :fool:

Good Luck!

Pick yourself up a cheap XR6 n/a, fit a blower and go XR6-T hunting.

Good luck with the N/A, their a lot of fun and you'll love it, just watch out for the mod bug if you get bit bad an N/A can be a pain in the ass.

That's what I like to hear. I have considered buying a fairmont or the like but I would much prefer to have the look of the XR6. I am still undecided yet as to weather to go manual or auto though.

Just wondering does the manual in the XR6 NA have the same problems that the MK1 XR6 Turbo manuals have? Just trying to decide on weather to go manual or auto.
