The one thing that annoyed me about my F6 is the driveline shunt. It happens at slow speed and low rpm. Having dviven a GTP MK1 I know things could be worse.

A friend of mine who is a motoring buff with many years of racing car driving suggested I start practicing heel & toe downshifting and blipping the throttle when downshifting without brake. When I first tried it with business shoes I thought the whole thing was more trouble than its worth. It was too hard to gauge throttle pressure and and I found I was stabbing the brake. My mate rode with me and gave me a few pointers and for the last few weeks I have used this method every time I downchange.

The result is a much smoother gear change and far less shunt. By matching engine speed with wheel speed I don't get the shunt when the clutch engages. The other benefit is you can release the clutch much faster without having to gauge the take up point.

At the end of the day this will not be for everyone. I have just made it a part of my driving and I probably wont go back. I doubt this will suit stopstart city driving :spoton:

I heel toe aswell. Even with the burnouts at the drags.

I just cannot left foot brake.

I have heard of this before but never understood it. I think I have no problems with gear changes, and when I down shift around the street (and I know I wanna gun it around the next corner) I rpm match... gotta be quick with the brake to accellerator to brake move though!

What is heel - toe shifting??

jeez, I do it everytime I drive a manual, but I am struggling to put the sequence to print.

1. Put clutch in and gear into neutral

2. Let clutch out

3. As you blip the throttle to get the rpm's up to match the lower gear, put clutch in and downshift

4. Let the clutch out

You have your toes, or in my case, the front half of your foot on the brake pedal, the heel of you foot goes on the gas..

It's a tad difficult in shoes, but thin soled jobbies are good, so you can feel the pedals..

I think I actually half my foot more like half/half longways on the pedals, coz I have wide feet and the pedal poition allows it..

And yeah, blip before you change down. I don't do it everywhere, but where your hard under brakes, it makes it easier on everything..

Ball of foot on brake, heel of foot on accelerator.

Modulate brake - Clutch in (simultaneously) Blip throttle - <More brake if need be> - Down gear - Clutch out - Full Right foot on throttle

It's hard to get the hang of and can result in graunches etc hence me learning on single rail XF and the pintara :spoton: very satisfying and quick when they slot right in but. same with clutchless down changes (rev matching)
