Hi,

I have just bought a "Pre Loved" '03 XR6T Auto and wanted to get some ideas of some modifications you guys would recommend. I am using this car as a steping stone before buying a new BF in probably 12 months so don't want to spend the earth and would be interested in anything that would be transferable to the new ride.

I have read a lot of good things about APS and the work they do, does anyone have any feedback on their systems?

Thanks

Simon

Hey mate :)

I have a K&N panel filter fitted with an SS Inductions cold air intake (which requires that you 'mod' the factory air box) fitted with the latter not seeming to be the 'preferred' option of cold air intake... I reckon it made quite a difference initially... but now (3 weeks later) don't notice the gain so much, maybe I am used to it or maybe my car (ECU and Ford :gooff:) is conspiring against me to negate the gains... but in saying that I haven't had my car dyno'd before and after either so don't quote me on acutal gains... but it feels and sounds like it breathes better.

If your going to only keep your car for a year then by the look of the guys on here who have mod'd their car's I'd only go the CAPA flash box (edit) with custom tune because you can take the CAPA flash box with you to your next XR6T... and then on sell your old car with the 'factory' tune re-progammed in...

I may be way off the mark and these guys will set me (and you) straight... but just thought it might help a little...

Jack

There are so many things that could be done and many different companies/brands to choose from. Like what's been said your best opting for something that can be transfered to the next car. I'd suggest Typhoon second cold air intake, 4" SMB dump pipe and cat and the edit would be great to take full advantage of what the T has to offer. Not sure whether the edit will work on the new BF though.

There's so much more that can be done but that would be good to get you started.

One word, Edit! :pinch: APS gear is good stuff but is now arguably more expensive than Edit for the same performance gains, isn't nearly as stealth as Edit and cannot control as many parameters as Edit. Having said that, the APS exhaust is probably the best system on the market, beautiful piece of equipment.

Unless you're a serious power junkie though, the increase in performance from Edit alone should keep you more than happy. Stuff like 'Phoon 2nd CAI and hi-po air filter all help but don't really add much to the power equation. Still, they're cheap and easy to do so if it makes you happy, go for it.

But I'd personally save your money until you get the BF to do stuff like installing larger injectors, IC, exhaust, etc. That is if you even feel the need to do so after trying Edit on a bog stock car!

Oh, and :pinch:

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all your feedback. Does anyone have any names of people in Melbourne who can do this EDIT. What is involved and any idea of an approx $ amount.

Thanks

Simon

What area of Melb. do you live.??

Edit box retails @ $995, plus you SHOULD get a Custom Tune. Approx $300 - $500.

You can always try the Factory (CAPA) tunes first, and go from there, but its not the best way.

The box comes with a Valet (Rev limited), a 8psi and a 10psi tune.

Stock being around 5-6 psi.

If it even cost $10.00 I'd be surprised,stay under the head light,some go lower,but I wouldn't bother

Notice top radiator pipe, bit of foam lagg to keep heat away from the air box

vik...easy one for ya while draining a few tubes :pinch::pinch::blush:

Alan's spot on re the custom tuning. I ran the generic CAPA tunes for a while and was luicky in that they seemed to work just fine on my car - many people have not found this to be the case, however, and for peace of mind alone it's worth getting the custom tune.

Have a search on the forum and you'll find more than plenty of info on Edit, its pros and cons, who the best custom tuners are, etc, etc. You should also take a look at the CAPA website for more info on Edit as well as a list of dealers. Good luck mate! :pinch:
