This is one of a very regular scam that is done using all types of cars. Basically they suck you into sending at least the shipping costs and then vanish. Its up there with the Nigerian funds transfers and "You have won the lottery in Europe" scams.

I just got a reply from the scammer:

The car is still available for sale and ready to be shipped.

The price is $ 9000 AU including shipping to your home address.

Shipping will be done via Lufthansa Air Cargo from Prague,Czech Republic and it will take no more then 4 days for the car to arrive at the delivery location.I am in the Military and Lufthansa will manage me a low price for shipping and if you will pay the money transfer taxes,I will pay for the shipping fees.I will arrange for you not to pay any dutyes when the car will pass through customs. In this way the car can be delivered to your home address.

Also, you have nothing to worry about this deal because will be done it in a secure way.The most important thing in all my activities, is that I am affiliated at eBay and I have a Purchase Protection Account for USD $20,000 and I assume you know what this means. If you did not hear about eBay Security here are their terms:

1) If you will not receive the car as advertised,eBay will refund you the whole amount which you paid me(100 %).In case that you will not receive the car, they will refund you the money back from my account.

2) You can send the money to my name and address but you will not provide me the details of the payment. You will provide the details to eBay.They will verify the payment and if is ok,and the money are availble under my name they will notify me to procede with the shipping. After you receive and see that the car is the one you want, you just notify eBay to forward me the payment details in order for me to pick up my money.

Let me know if this is ok with you,so that we can go forward with this deal!About the payment eBay will manage in my place the financial details.

Regards!

p.s. I need your full name, shipping address and phone # in order to contact eBay and start the deal.

So I sent him back:

know this is a SCAM.

I have reported you to eBay and also AOL to ensure that scum like you do not try to scam ignorant people.

I suggest you stop your practice of scamming people because you will suffer in the long run.

I never had any intention of buying this vehicle as I knew that only a moron would think a $60,000 car would be sold for $10,000.

Also why would an Australian built car be in the Czech republic.

I hope that you are caught soon and suffer, just like the people you have probably scammed in the past.

Why do you not get a real job and stop being a common thief

I was tempted to email my scammer back along similar lines but figured I'd just be wasting my time, they must be used to it by now. Damn annoying, though, to think that there are lowlife pr1cks like this out there trying to do innocent (albeit very gullible!!) people out of their hard earned cash.

It will be interesting to see what (if anything) you get back from this guy!

I will let you know if I do get a reply.

I get about 10 scams sent to me each week. Because I run a ISP, all my friends filter email through me before they do anything on the net.

Its funny how many scams there are.

I hope this guy looses his AOL account and eBay takes action.

I used to frequent an American Cobra forum, and on there was often lots of similar scams being discussed.

The best response came from a guy who decided to scam the scammers, so... he bid on the car, and went right through the process, but decided that he would see how far he could push the situation.

He told the guy that he wanted to bring the cash over himself and have a holiday while the car was being shipped, and asked if he could get the guy to meet him at the airport - giving him a flight number and time etc. The guy agreed.

Next he kept giving the scammer updates on all sorts of weird things - like his wife was trying to steal his money etc.

At about the time the scammer would have been at the airport - the guy emailed saying he had missed his flight, and that he would meet him at a cafe a bit later (I think it was in some city in Europe somewhere) at a particular time. He had a friend who worked in the city overlooking the cafe - and was going to get him to keep an eye out for the scammer.

Next he emailed the scammer saying that he had killed his wife (including sending him some photos), and needed the scammer to buy him a new plane ticket, so that he could get to him with his money as his bank accounts were frozen by the authorities, and that he didnt need to ship the car anymore as he had decided to move there and keep the car in Europe.

All through this the scammer was still convinced this was all real - was quite funny reading all the replies.
