I am really going to have to get off my ass and get a power run dyno, to answer a lot of these questions, I must admit I am curious myself. Having said that I do not really understand dyno sheets like a lot of people here.

The claimed increases 300kw at the fly and 540Nm of tourque. Plus 11 psi of boost as apposed to 6 psi.

Seat of the pants response, it feels as though you have been driving around with fouled plugs and blocked injectors, and you finally get of your ass and get these problems fixed. It is just so crisp, and pulls hard. Add to that the increased turbo and induction noise.

Maybe if I drove a comparable edited car then I would love the edit, then again if someone pro edit drove my car they might think, gee there are other options.

Who knows, for those of us who for one reason or another cannot go crazy, with mods, I reckon the powerchip is a pretty good option.

As mentioned earlier though, I do need to get and meet some of you Guys and Gals, and make some comparisons.

Scotty

Mate - no way a pre programed chip with 11psi is gonna we true. FOr starters at 8psi the stock injectors are maxed out at 100% duty cycle at 5500rpm, 11psi woul dsee you engine runing out of fuel at around 4500rpm and and having no power above that.

To prove that point a 10psi edit will see you run up to 250rwkw up to 5000rpm and then bang, no more fuel no more boost = no more power.

And all that is achieved by spending time on a dyno and adjusting variables in the ecu to suit. A plug in chip is useless and its safe to say you have been taken for a ride.

And on that note, a custom tuned 8psi map will make just over 300kw with around 560nm torque. If you tyres done spin in second gear, or you clutch doesn't slip then your not making enough HP as claimed. Simple.

Alex,

Give me a PM and we'll catch up.

You can have a drive of mine and I hope that will change your opinion. :kissmy:

pardon my ignorance but if it goes hard (without wheelspin) and chirps into second and your happy with it whats the issue?? believe a car thats gots so much torque/hp that it frys the tires every time you get on it hard is fun but frustrating at the same time...

This is a really good thread guys, open minded debate.

There is no single soution that is perfect and each has its strengths and weaknesses and not all owners have the same desires either. Hence these threads will always bring debate and no clear conclusion which is their strength.

As most will know having read past threads on Edit in the ACT (MA15 - contains Adult Themes!) there were a broad range of customers each with different requirements and ideals and ages. Some wanted to break traction at every opportunity regardless of the long term impacts on their engine and driveline and there were those who sought more modest increases in performance where longevity was not impacted but the performance was brightened up.

Most went away satisfied and some didn't.

Those that were not satisfied will have their concerns resolved in the fullness of time as some cars choose to behave differently when taken out of the "suits-everyone mild tune" states of the normal Ford factory setup.

I had both a very good Unichip set up which my Edit experience has yet to better....watch this space after Monday....the Unichip set up provided plenty of torque, power etc, perfect idle, excellent fuel consumption...all on 95RON and running less than 11 psi boost...everything APS claim and more - a factor of both the equipment and the tuner. Therfore I think people are being unfair when just blandly stating Edit is far superior.

Aside from the opportunity to emove certain things like torque tags, which were placed there for the protection of you and your car, the Unichip/APS does not offer the option to have three different tunes at hand whenever required, plus the ability to put it back to the factory tune at will. If you own a BA, AU and in time BF and have no other mods and wish to raise its level of performance without ANY visible modifications or additions then to all intents and purposes Edit currently cannot be bettered.

As to higher levels of mod then I keep an open mind as currently Edit has yet to prove its value in my circumstances, nevertheless I will press on to determine whether it is my car that is being the reluctant b$astard it can sometimes be or whether there is a mechanical issue or just a zero wating to be turned into a 1 somewhere.

Either way there is a risk-reward equation that we must all consider at the outset. Whatever the method of tuning chosen it will present some degree of risk - warranty, drive train and engine longevity etc against that you weigh the financial cost and of course the reward or fun factor. Not everyone sees the need to lay rubber at every opportunity and some do, not every dealer will blacklist owners with mods and some do, not every car will readily adopt modified states of tune and some do.

Get all the dyno figures you like, profess to have whatever power and torque figures you like, in the end it doesn't matter one little bit if you as the owner are not happy with the overall package and its driveability. Whether its achieved by chip, Edit or a mixture of tarrot cards, astrological charts and random numbering techniques matters little if you believe you have the appropriate risk-reward equation, and the arse of your pants tells you it feels good.

Whatever your tune, whatever your desires we have a common theme here which is our ownership of the T which is a darn good package and a desire to improve it further and learn from each others experiences, both good and bad.

200RWKW or 300RWKW safe motoring.

Ok it goes like this.

Like what others have said already; what you need is the Edit, plain and simple. Powerchips are fine and all, but they are no comparison to the Edit and the functionality that it offers. Powerchip do a great job, but there product isn't even in the same league as the Edit. Double the power increase for only a 60% increase in price ($800+ for a 20 -25rwkw increase or 1300+ for 40 - 60rwkw increase, sometimes less, sometimes more).

And that's just the power increase. The overall drivabiliity of the car will be completely transformed, it will be like a totaly different car than what you originally picked up.... Do a search and find some more information out yourself.

There are a number of things you need to know.

When you get the Edit, you'll need to get it custom tuned (what is it now, $950-1000 for the edit and about $300 - $500 for a custom tune?). In doing so, you'll be able to get it tuned perfectly safe (you could go as far as to say that it is safer than stock) while running on 95 RON fuel, and even a normal unleaded map for that extra crap fuel batch of fuel that seems to happen all too often when transversing this great land.

This way, you are covered dispite your location and fuel supply.

And regardless of what some may tell you, Ford does not know when your ECU has been edited; as long as you return the car back to its stock tune before each service you'll be fine. You can also specifically tell Ford NOT to reflash the ECU in your car during each service... EVER.

The only exceptions being, of course, are recalls of some sort or major bug fixes.

This way, everyone is happy. We all know that the car is MORE than capable of handling the power increase from an edit alone, without any noticable increase in wear and tear on the car (appart from your rear tyres :P), other than a slight increase in oil usage. But this is completely understandable given that it is a turbocharged car and you are ramping the cylinder pressures up by a couple of hundred PSI over stock (a 5psi increase in boost compressed 9 times and then ignited with the correct amount of fuel = anywhere from 500 to 1000psi, depending on the engine...).

So we all know that if anything breaks while you have a mild edit, then ovbiously the hardware that has broken was clearly not up to scratch in the first place and would most likely have broken in the near future anyway. These cars are built with a massive safety margin on components. If they can't handle an extra 40rwkw, then they weren't up to scratch according to basic engineering practice (which gives you a minimum safety net of about 20 - 25%, which just so happens to be a 40 - 50rwkw safety net...)

Do you think that it's a coincidence that people xr6T's, with an edit alone, get roughly this much grunt from there cars? I think not..

/ramble.

I find your posts painfully long and boring. Shorten them please.

I was asking in a thread the other day, but failed to find it in a search, what would happen if I modded my Powerchipped car. I had a list of the usual mods. The answer quite correctly was boom and some smiley (buggered if I know where you guys get them). However I have been doing some more research and will put what I have found in this post.

http://www.powerchipgroup.com/news/newsletter.asp (then click on the Ford Newsletter)

I am seeking some advice now on what would be a good Moded package to run with a stage three tune.

Now I am not anti nor am I pro edit, I have absolutely nothing to do with it. I have however had my car powerchipped and I am very happy with the result. As you all will know once the modding starts the bug bites. Hence I am looking further.

I am interested though in your opinions. I enjoy the read and I will enjoy the responses.

Cheers

Scotty
