The companies main business is being an Application Service Provider.

We host all Microsoft Office Applications, email, websites, etc.., as well as a custom Membership based database.

Our servers host these apps via Citrix Metaframe, clients save money on upgrading computer hardware, backup software/devices, licensing, etc.. by paying us to do it all for them. Only need a crappy computer to run a citrix client, the only thing they need to keep at a decent level is their internet connection.

I am part of a network team that keeps the ASP environment up and running.

We also branch out into tech support for our hosted clients, and others they have referred us to.

Network Support

Windows Server/Desktop Support

Citrix Support

VMWare Support

Relocations

etc...

Thre biggest problem here is that 50k is the right money. Not 70-130k. Sorry to say but most programmers, and techs have great resumes and that's it.

Any good ones will get paid what their worth. I employ 10 people all in IT. The IT indistry is full of smart boys all with qualifications and no real real world experience.

When a programmer can write an application that can return 4 times his costs each year he is worth paying for. Many deliver poor code poorly executed and overpriced.

Last IT job I advertised I got 140 applicants. 125 had spelling errors in their resumes. 140 of them had suspect claims. 3 got shortlisted. First choice lasted a week and couldnt cope with the workload.

letter and quals mean jack crap to an employer if you can't cut the mustard!

Meany ;) Just kidding, but I totally agree with those statements. Especially people who come straight out of University thinking they're the bees knees and sure, they MAY be good at coding specific things they were taught at University, but when it comes to real world programming they have no clue.

I agree, were are in the process of looking for a Network Engineer with Cisco and Microsoft skills ($60K plus super) and basically I have not seen a resume that is worth calling in for a interview. They all claim they have Cisco certifications and Microsoft certifications and in interview they would be lucky to tell you how to configure a ip address on Ethernet interface.
