hey guys,

Over the past few months I've noticed a strange noise when I reverse. When moving, I hear a tink sort of noise. Can only describe it as maybe a rock inside a tin can? Just being rattled? It doesnt happen all the time.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?? If so, any ideas? Sounds as if it might be coming from engine bay area... doesnt sound gearbox related, or clutch related... as far as I remember, it happened pre-edit, as well as with edit.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers people!

This has happened 3 times with my car. All stock. It is now fixed.

I was able to show the dealer the issue by putting it in Drive and stalling it up to about 1800-2000 revs. Then put it into reverse and do the same thing.

It sounds almost like metal stretching, hey? With the loctite, I have had no reoccurence. I would probably get it done before your service. I just don't like the idea of a loose tailshaft!

Nah, nothing will go wrong. Mine has done it for 15,000km's. I've had the tailshaft replaced 3 times now which fixed the problem for about 2 weeks then it comes back, I've just stopped worrying about it. And for 15,000km's or so and it still holds up strong.

That being said, it goes in next Monday to get it fixed and I'll give it one last go.

It'll probably doing whilst you take off as well if you put your window down and listen carefully.

thanks spoonage. I rang my mate who works at ford yesterday, and he said it could also be heat shield, but im doubting that... either way, I've made him aware of it, so when it goes into service, he'll know. and if it goes bang, then he'll also know!! not too fussed at this stage... unless I start hearing it more often!
