tyres were actually available in any colour a few years ago but were banned in the states because gangs were using them to mark there territory

they add die to the silica to give the colour, the funny thing is that they do it anyway or else tyres would not be black. Earlier tyres used a different compound and were black so to keep with tradition when they went to a silica based compound they had to die the tyres black and it has just stayed that way.
