100 thousand k's is pretty impressive i was happy?!? to get to 60000 :gooff:

the hot spots in the clutches are something ford have been trying to fix since day dot. my trans i being built at the moment and the guy doing it is using the latest generation friction plates from ford. (there from the 4 speed in the bf range) they have the oil grooved pressed into the to stop the material from flaking where it's been cut and have more grooves than the previous plates to try and get mor lube in there and stop the hot spotting..

they are kevlar. the lubrication grooves ar pressed into them and not cut. the grooves a pressed in at 90 degrees to the oute edge of the clutch plate (ie if u join up two of the grooves they disect the center of the circle) the older clutch plates had the grooved cut(machined) at about a 45 degree angle and the cut grooves intersected each other. this left a small triangle shaped piece about 3mm by 3mm that used to break off under hard use. the idea is that the new plates still have enough lubrication are but also a larger surface area to apply the load too

does that make any sense? ill try to draw some dodgy pictures im ms paint and post them up :sleepystuff:

the attached pic is a rought drawing of the old and new plates. the one on the left is the new style. the one on the right is the old style the red area are the areas that break away and this lead to the whole clutch plates wearing and eventually slipping

hope this makes sense

sh*t yeah, I was thinking $2500 at least. Did he tell you what power it will handle now approx. That makes me feel a little better when my gearbox decides to kill itself.

GOLDIE. Any chance you can explain that cooler/fan setup a little more.

Well after driving it tonight the auto is great shift is not harsh at all when going slow but under power it is positive which is what we wanted as we do not do drags.

Ian

The trans cooler I fitted is under the back lh side of the car it has it's own fan and is big.

The fan is an 8 inch unit and the cooler is slightly bigger than that.
