I have been offered 4 19" rims and tyres that have only done 1000kms. I was needing advice mainly on the tyres and how good or crap they are. What could I expect comared to my current 17" T tyres/rims for handling, acceleration, wear etc? Price paid was $3500 and ive been offered them for $2000.

The specs are:

BSA Motosport 305 rims

Kumho Ecsta Supra 235/35ZR19 91Y multistud tubless (DH2CF YCN)

I have looked up some reviews on the tyre and cant find much. I did find the kumho site (http://www.kumhousa.com/Products/PtnDetails.asp?mainCatID=1&PtnID=712&refAction=PtnDetail) and take a look at the comparable tyres at the bottom.

Ive also read some review at eopinions.com and other places and the tyres seem ok. I was also wondering if when I need new tyres how much of a wider tyre would fit on these rims?

Can't say I know much/anything about those particular tyres, but I think the main question is whether you are prepared to pay the asking price for a 'good' set of tyres once those need replacing. Just be aware that 19" tyres are considerably more expensive than their 18" counterparts.

Another thing to bear in mind is that the larger rims/lower profile tyres you go, the more prone you are to damaging your rims on potholes, etc. :spoton:

It's also very hard for anyone to tell you what size tyres will fit on the rims without telling us how wide the rims are!!

Larger wheels also means heavier. So your performance will be effected by wheel size alone. Have no comments about the rubber though sorry.

What are the treadwear and traction ratings of the tyres?

They should be on the sidewalls.

This will tell you a lot of information.

Only thing I see that may be a problem is that the minium load rating for a tyre on a BA XR is 92. These are 91, would your insurance still cover you?

Kumho Ecsta Supra 235/35ZR19 91Y multistud tubless (DH2CF YCN)

I was told if I put the Michelin Preceda (235/45R17 94V) on my T then I would have to check the insurance company wrote it onto the policy as the Michelin are V rated not W as specified on the tyre plackard.

Make sure you tell your insurance company that your car is speed limited to 230km/h as well.

This is a good site to browse through before buying rims or tyres, because it has reviews from people that have bought them.

hope that helps..

Thanks so far guys!

I will go see the guy and get all the info off the side of the tyres.

Speed rating is not a problem because the car is limited at 230kmh like Cro said.

I don't understand how the load index (91) should matter because 91=615kg x 4 = 2460kg and my T is never that heavy even with passengers and luggage. I will never own a tow bar if that means anything?

Also, how much acceleration do you think I will loose due to 19" wheels?

And is there any benifiet to wider tyres with my power (253rwkw)?

The Kumho's are not cutting edge tyres but they are not bottom feeders either.

It all comes down to how you drive your car. If you punt it hard regularly then you may want something with a higher spec.

You will probably find that they are generally fine and cover most of your needs but just be aware that they have limits.

You should be able to do better than $2000 as well. Second-hand gear (particularly wheels and tyres) depreciate heaps. I picked up some brand new 19 inch BSA wheels and Nankang tyres fitted, balanced, lock nuts and wheel alignment for $2300. Kumho's are better than Nankangs but not $300 better.

If you do buy them and assuming that the rims are 19x8 then look for some 245/35 when you replace the Kumho's.
