unfortunatly it was always going to happen. Hence why I originally capped power in the first place @ 330 rwkw's. WHen Jas fitted the zorst we where in the back of our mids saying, this isnt going to last long. I mean seriously, stock engines just cant sustain that sort of power.

I told jas that it wouldnt live at that power but like he said he is getting a stronger bottom end anyways so the plan was to fit the zorst he go on holidays and when he got back biuld the bottom end... Unfortunalty the engine didnt last that long. It was running very safe afr's.. Its just alot of power for a stock motor to have.. It only pinged once in our testing and when it did ping it was after we had decided it must have a problem.

What I find a little hard to to understand is, the pistsons arent really a week link... the rods are.... why the pistons let go is beyond me... maybe had a fault to begin with... I dont know.. but I am looking forward to see it being pulled down to inspect it.

Maybe the rings let go because the rods were bent, hence the piston pushing on one side of the bore. This may have opened the clearancees on the opposite side and caused excessive pressure on the rings, this might be why they went bang..

A ring with even pressure all the way round wouldn't break, you'd think..

Just out of interest what do you reckon a new beefed up bottom end would cost. I ask as mine is at ford currently being inspected and I don't like my chances of warranty

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

just a real round abouts for forged pistons and stronger rods.

well atomic bottom ends are cheap, I think with freight to your door they work out about 4700, that's a complete bottom end, with new block ect none exchange.

good value for money.

im using there rods in my street bottom end im currently biulding.

What's the going rate for replacing the bottom end. If I was to get an atomic bottom end what should I excpect to pay to have it fitted. I've had two fairly rough estimates and they vary quite a bit. from 3 to 6 grand ontop of me supplying a block.

If any can break down the costs it would be great to know what my money is buying me.

Any engine builders out there got any ideas.

just curious..... your name suggests you have a Boss v8 ?

If that's the case, what mods have you done to worry you about ford warranty?

The other point is, the atomic bottom end mentioned in the posts above is for an XR6 T short motor... pretty good value for what's in it.

I was quoted around $8k to get my own motor rebuilt to similar spec.

regards

tom

Had an XR8 ute but got rid of that to buy a T. Didn't know how weak these motors are until it broke. Kind of wished I kept the eight, but once the T is on the road again I'm sure all will be fine.
