Actually TurboDewd, for it's 2nd tank of fuel (it's only done 850km) with only 100km of highway driving, the rest was spirited around town use, it averaged 15.8L/100km. At 100kph the instant reading hovers around 9.5L/100km & it will only get better as it loosens up. My turbo ute was lucky to average 12.5L/100 with 80% highway use & a tank used mainly around town would get around 17L/100km.

Cheers,

Steve.

Very nice Steve, l am willing to bet your economy is better than your XR. Bigger engine but lighter car and for some reason the Expensive Daewoo 8's seem to be OK on fuel.

Thanks guys,

I seriously considered the Super Pursuit, but after reading Motor mags comparison last month, the Maloo seemed like a better choice for me. My utes rarely have more than a couple of hundred kilo's in the back, the majority of the time the tub is empty, so for me the IRS is a huge plus. I do tow a trailer on a semi-regular basis & the manual Maloo is rated at 1600kg unlike the manual Pursuit at 1200kg, I prefer manuals & only had an auto in my T for the tow rating. Motor list the Super Pursuit at 1890kg, 55kg heavier than the GT-P, & 194kg heavier than the R8, which is a huge difference in such similarly spec'd utes. For me the R8 is a relatively cost effective way to get into a genuine performance/sports vehicle with the tax benefits of a ute & without the warranty, roadworthy & insurance issues of further modifying my T ute. Please don't think I'm bashing the Super Pursuit, if the decision was based on looks alone I would be driving the FPV, & the Pursuit would obviously be the better choice for a real work ute. My idea of driving pleasure is a trip across Mt. Hotham to the coast, so for that type of driving the R8 is perfect. Again, I'm not bashing Fords, I think we're very lucky to have such a variety of performance vehicles to suit different individuals tastes & requirements, & it's us, the consumers who benefit from the fierce competition between Ford & Holden. Hopefully with all the safety features of modern vehicles the Gumbiment won't put an end to the horsepower war as they did in the 70's, who would've thought in the mid to late 80's when ford were not selling V8's that we would now have a choice of 2 V8's & a Turbo 6. Let the good times roll!

Cheers,

Steve.

PS. Sorry this is a bit long winded, but I just wanted to give my treachery some perspective & hopefully enlighten some of the more one-eyed Ford people.

What I don't understand is, WHY oh WHY, does everyone make such a blunt comparision BETWEEN MONARO's AND MALOO's against the XR6T..

Remember Monaro's are the higher end of the Expensive Daewoo V8 line

The MALOO is a freaking HSV (I think)

AND the XR6T is a stock standard turbo 6

Technically, people should Drive a typhoon, then the Maloo or monaro, more evenly matched in the sense the phoon is the higher end of FORDS turbo's.

The XR6 was made for the family, towing caravans trailers, or just to get around. not for freaking drag races, head to heads with holdens.. if you want that then do it up like some have, or buy a phoon, then compare it to the likes of holdens higher end cars.

OR........ stick a turbo in a Expensive Daewoo S then compare it to the XR6T, I can tell you now the FORD would wipe the road with the Expensive Daewoo 1, why do you think Expensive Daewoo are reluctant to try and enter this market. Actually why would they when people are too busy comparing the XR6T to the Monaro, all the false marketing is done for them. They are laughing all the way to the bank.

As I stated earlier, it would be fairer to compare the Maloo to a Typhoon than my turbo ute, but I didn't have a Phoon & these are just my observations, not a direct comparison. You can only compare vehicles that you've actually owned or driven. An XR6T with luxury pack & performance brakes is definately a reasonable comparison to a Monaro & one which would in most cases see the T come out on top, except perhaps in resale value. It's a testament to the XR6T that it compares favourably to vehicles that cost considerably more.

Cheers,

Steve.
