The problem is the pc that conects to the phone point/internet needed xp pro to be reinstalled as it became corrupt and ever since I got the internet working again on the other computer I get constant traffic across the lan, like 4000 packets in 20 minutes sent, anyone with some network knowledge help? While my PC continued to connect to the Internet / LAN, his couldn't.His PC didn't work with DHCP but whn I assigned an IP address, all was ok.Once I was able to connect his PC to the Internet, I downloaded the latest drivers for his inbuilt LAN chip....and then DHCP worked beautifully.Could be similar problem ?????That's why I asked for more info. I need more info on you LAN cable is it a cross over cable or a straight through cable (twisted pair). Is the LAN cable plugged into a switch or is it a duel port modem.Look now that I read your post again I simply need more info tell me all that you can about your network. Cabling, Modem, Switches, O/S, software installed on both PCs including anti virus and additional fire wall protection is XP Pro on both machines.
