Has anyone have this happen?

In the last week I have started to use the AC more. After it has been operating for a while, then it is turned off, the smell starts.

I went to the dealer today and was told the smell is due to a bacteria on the AC core in the dash and there is nothing they can do about it. They say I should have used the AC more and it wouldn't have happened.

The next suggestion they showed me was to lower the glove box remove the leaf screen and spray Glenn 20 into the fan inlet when it is operating.

Any suggestions from the forum?

My problem seems to have disappeared after a few months of use, thank goodness!

I have the same problem in my wifes sportivo, as the F6 remains a weekend car

first thing in the morning when I start up,phwooooo, only lasts for a few seconds,

this got me thinking,I allways have the a/c on,even in winter so the core never gets to dry out, allways cold and damp

so last night I took it for a 30min drive with the heater on full tilt, max fan and max heat, wound down all the windows to avoid cooking myself, with the a/c on aswell

thought I could burn off any crap in there

well well well, start the car this morning with the a/c on cold as usuall, presto no smell

give it a go,it seemed to work for me

heaps of places do an a/c system deodouriser, is readily available from repco & bursons. use it often and it works ok.

unfortuneately the a/c box is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria-cold, dark +moist. so u might have to use every now and then. u can also shoot in in through where the pollen filter/mesh is.

Also, try to run the A/C on the fresh air setting rather than the recirc.

Did the Glenn 20 spray into the fan intake. Have been using the AC frequently since and the smell seems to be gone. Should I say both smells, the stale water smell and the Glenn 20 smell.
