hey guys..

Okay one of my mates turns 18 next jan and he is buying a EL XR6 (manaul). I dont really know that much about exhausts for older cars than BA but basicly he wants a strong note (with a bit of rumble) but not that rice sound that all the lancers have. I heard a VT executive a while back flooring it past us and it sounded so dam awesome...like a rocket it was just so strong. I was wondering what would we do to get that sort of note on a el XR6 or simular note.

Thanks in advance,

Andy

A mate of mine has a EL XR6 manual with herrod extractors and cat and a redback exhaust and it sounds very nice. you would think it is an XR8 if you didnt see the 6 badge on it. It goes pretty good too.

pacemaker extractors and a 2 1/2" exhaust with a straight through muffler should do the trick

redback or lukey for the catback will be fine, just make sure it is mandrel bent...

Thanks guys. Straight threw muffler? whats that? would it sound better if we just removed the centre muffler?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

it might be way too loud if you remove the centre muffler. it depends how loud your mate wants it. Good cars those XR6 ELs.

let us know how your mates goes.

Cheers

I have a 2 1/2" with a straight through muffler on my EF, and I wouldn't reccommend taking it out, it would be to loud, sounds good as it is...

Exactly what I've got in my XG PanelVan; Pacemaker extractors, 2 1/2" SS,

Lukey straight through muffler, standard cat, no rear resonator.

It's got a quiet rumble at idle or cruising with no drone but as soon as you drop the boot it roars to 3500rpm and screams above that.

P.S. "Straight through muffler" just means that it's a single pipe full of holes that goes straight through the muffler, as opposed to an inlet pipe going in one side offset to the left for example, and the outlet pipe coming out the other side offset to the right, as a result the gasses have to sort of zig-zag through the muffler and is a lot quieter.

from what I hear and what im gonna do after mounths of resurch is.

jim mock extractors , au cat modefied to have 2.5 inch pips on both ends, and a redback or lukey 2.5 inch madrel bent straight threw exhaust with one muffler and a resinator at the back.

that should sound heaps tuff.

in my old vr v6 I had pacemaker extractors into a 3" mandrel lukey exhaust..

I loved the sound of that beast but it used to drone a little goin up hills with a full car, but sounded awesome.. real roar but not ricish if you know what I mean.

hope the setup you guys have chosen is all good!!

should sound good!! u dont have an EF XR6 in gunmetal grey by any chance do u?? I think I saw a pic of it on another forum...

I would consider pacemaker extractors as well, they seem to be a little more popular that the JMM ones due to price...
