The rice boy brigade in their hotted up mini turbo cars sound sooooo silly to me when they floor it in traffic just so they (and I presume others) can hear their BOV working away! Each to their own I guess, it's great there's such variety here! Posted 22/10/05 02:14 AM Share Posted 22/10/05 02:14 AM The main problem with such a modification is the fact you are allowing a small amount of unfiltered air into your engine. At cruise speeds and idle, the BOV is designed to work as vacume aswell.I did what you have done, sounded great, but was warned off it by the likes of IH8PORK and F6 UTE. I then spent just over 100 bucks and got a proper one that's vents to either manifold or atmo. Posted 22/10/05 03:49 AM Share Posted 22/10/05 03:49 AM Unless you're going to be running alot more boost, there simply is no point replacing the BOV. And to reverse the standard one is just stupid, the spring works inversly to a normal BOV, reversing the flow under vacuum, so under light loads it acts like an NA allowing air to come strait from filter, bypassing the turbo (under light loads with the wastegate wide open, the turbo isn't exactly spinning all that fast; the air is infact being sucked through it)...So you've done the following.Made your T sound a little louder, allowed a small amount of boost to leak, and you have just lowered you cruising fuel economy...I really don't see the point, just for a little bit of a 'psssht' that can irritate the crap out of all concerned...Each to there own, heck, its your car...PS, OT: WOOT! A massive thunder storm is heading towards my house... O that's right.. to 'stir the pot' .. Awsome job! Jeez Bain, little touchy today are we?! If you read the last bit of my post, I was basically saying that I know everyone ain't the same and was in fact praising the fact that there ARE differences in taste. I know for a fact many out there would hate what I've done with my own car (including you probably), but hey, them's the breaks and I ain't cryin' about it.And if you've never gone just a wee bit off topic in a thread before (and I believe I was still talking about BOVs), then, well, I don't believe you!! Calm down fella, life ain't meant to be stressful. The Factory Bosch BOV is actually a very good unit when put up against much higher aftermarket priced items. I have an article somewhere in my collection of mags where they tested a number of BOV's against each other and the Bosch unit was ranked as one of the better units even against items 4 times it's price.I actually ran one on my old turbo car as an aftermarket one. It cost me $50 and was fantastic.Personally on the T there are a number of quality components. you would only really need to change it if you were looking at going over 300rwkw, otherwise you are just doing it for personal taste and looks, and even sound for those who are after that sort of effect.
