Appears the noise is caused by a bolt that attaches the support rod to the turbo couldn't stand the heat and abandoned ship. Replaced bolt fixed! BTW, you were right, Ford had put the clamp on so that the bits to hold onto were right at the back behind the turbo and just about bloody impossible to get to.
