So - has anybody here done the PBR performance brake upgrade?

PBR Performance Brakes

What's the deal? How good are they and are they worth the money?

To give you an idea I kind of upgraded.

I've had 2 XR6T's, first one was with the standard brakes, second one with the premium brakes (same as PBR kit).

On my first track day in the first XR, I slaughtered my brakes, boiled brake fluid, glazed DBA rotors, ripped apart 6 week old pads, and killed the master cylinder. All this was after a 6 minute, 4 lap session.

I've now been on two more track days in my new XR and the longest I've been on at anyone time was 35mins, don't know how many laps though. In any case I the brakes still stopped every time, no worries what so ever.

So are they worth it? sh*t yeah :spoton:

Send a PM to BCR01, he can answer more questions for ya ;)

I'm happy with my PBR's.....

On the original standard brakes, I had two very sickening moments of complete brake fade after a short downhill hoot through the hills.

Not to mention brake shudder every 12000 km.

The PBR brakes have not suffered any fade whatsoever, returning the lost confidence experienced withthe std brakes.

I've done about 6000 km on them now, with no shudder issues.

I have removed the dust covers (round disc plates) to expose the rotors but be prepared for more brake dust on the front rims.

I do get an occasional squeal under light braking at low speed, like when pulling up at lights. Generally when there is a build up of dust on the brakes after heavy sessions. But it's not an issue to me.

The kit works well, and looks pretty good too.

If you drive with any enthusiasm, I'd get rid of the std brakes asap.

The PBR kit is better value than the factory premium brakes.

This is a little off topic and might sound a little stoopid, but since I dsont have a great deal of knowledge in brakes, I will ask anyway.

Can you fit larger diameter rotors to the standard calipers?

PBR kit fitted and one of the best bangs for the buck around - excellent results, no fade, rattles, warp, shudder just darn good brakes befitting a fast, heavy car. There is an enormous amount of info on this upgrade so PLEASE do a search as we seem to keep on re-generating these threads every couple of weeks.

BCR01 is your man - a delight to deal with and prices that cannot me matched to forum members.

I don't think you could increase the diameter of rotors with the std calipers, as it would foul on the inside of the caliper.... unless you made an adapter to offset the caliper further out.... But that would alter the radial path between the rotor and the pad profile which could cause other (noise/efficientcy/longevity) issues.

You can, however, use rotors of different materials with/without slots and or cross drilled holes, which improve heat dissipation and prevent gas buildup on the surface between pad and rotor under duress.

But better performance is obtained by increasing the applied torque factor, by increasing the pad centreline with wider rotors.

Note The PBR kit offers this on the front brakes only.

The rears are identical in size as the std brakes, albeit a little better due to the slotted rotors.... and of course, they look "pretty in red"

After writing off a couple of pairs of undies I got myself the PBR's through BCR01 (top bloke BTW). They took a couple of hours to fit and bed in - money well spent. No more brake fade, a little more brake dust, but that just means theyre working and reminds me its time to wash the ute!

Its one thing to make these tanks go quick - pulling them up deserves just as much attention IMO. Got the PBR's...

Hi guys,

After looking at them for 3 weeks now, Im finally getting around to fitting my PBR brake upgrade today.. Just have been so busy that after fixing everyone elses car, the last thing I want do do is actually work on my own toys..

BTY, my first XR6T, had factory performance brakes fitted and I found it wasn't just the stopping power, but the overall feel of the brakes that made such a difference when compared to standard brakes. The PBR kit includes braided hoses which should make pedal feel even better (There was nothing poor about the pedal feel with factory performance brakes... Standards feel like they might'nt stop sometimes....) so I cant wait to see the difference.. Personally id have preferred the calipers to be painted black so no one can tell whats been done to the car.... Yes stealth is the way... I will post again when Im done and give us all some feedback

I've had mine for about 10 months now, and there is no comparison to standard brakes :idunno:

:hrmm:

Better stopping power

No shudder

Better pedal feel

Better look

:idunno:

A little more brake dust
