I am researching putting a dvd player into my XR6T. If have the premium sound system. I spoke to a local incar entainment place and they quoted my $1500 but I am sure there has to be a cheaper way of doing it. I have read that the Screen is Ntsc so will I need to get some sort of Pal to NTSC converter. I have also read that there is some inputs where the tissue box is. Can I plug straight into this. I also look at the Aux input. Does the sound have to go thourgh this input or is it via the plugs where the tissue box is.

Thanks

Any info on this topic would be graetly appreciated. Also if anyone nows of a DIY page that would be great.

The plug at the tissue box is the SatNav plug and all the video goes through this. You can make a cable ( painful ) or buy the Blaupunkt cable (also painful but for different reasons-around a 180 of them! ). The sound goes through the Aux input connector up under the dash at drivers footwell, you can make the lead ( easy) or buy it from Ford (around 27 bucks ). You select Aux by pushing the AM button on the sound system and you get downmixed 5.1 dolby digital through the stereo and it sounds pretty damn good. A full on crash course on connecting stuff to the ICC and links on how to make leads can be found in Digital TV for Ford ICC thread-it's a long read but you'll learn a lot!

I've also noticed the kits that the guy is selling on E-Bay....apparently he can do a kit without DVD player for $440.

Not sure if he'd be willing to do a group buy for cheaper ?

Would many be interested ?

I'd be interested in a group buy. Any one else interested?

With the additional inputs into the converter, it looks like I could still use the STB.

Unless I'm mistaken, the website you refer to stipulates that the screen is inoperative while the handbrake is off. The item available on E-Bay allows the screen to be used whilst vehicle is in motion....legalities of this is another issue.

Personally, I'm waiting for the price to drop a little further. I have a portable DVD player and 2 x screens already. Therefore, until the price drops further, using the console screen is not something I'll easily convince the missus about.
