Not a vitamin as such, but I take Glucosomine each day for cartillage problems. Ever since having a knee reconstruction many years back, I have had to wear support bandages around my knee when playing tennis to ensure I can walk the next day.

However, after seeing a Dennis Lillee add on TV, I've now started taking the Glucosomine tablets and haven't worn a support bandage for last 6 months. Maybe it's psychological....maybe it's not.

YCL is spot on, the body absorbs vitamins from fresh food much more readily than from pills. They're diatery "Suppliments" not diatery requirements.

That's right :msm: if you want the extra Vitamins get it in the sack :finger:

Your body only requires very small quantities of vitamins and minerals which are readily absorbed from eating real food.

That's real apples, oranges, carrots, spinach etc etc etc.

The only reason anyone should take any supplements, is if they have a specific deficiency brought about by poor diet (or illness/disease)

A lot of the "energy boosts" you get with some supplements is psychological.

In reality, your kidneys simply flush the supplements out as the body does not absorb more than it needs....

so you are literally "pissing" your money away.

Is it good to take extra vitamins in the form of pills or would you be better to to get the vitamin from eating the proper food?

I'm talking about a Joe Average type person, not an athlete.

Any Doctors or Nutritionalists on the forum?

plenty of info on the web.

Here's just one item which provides some info on the topic.

vitamin B deficiency

Like I said earlier....

Eat REAL food and you'll never have problems.

Some Weetbix in the morning will provide you with just about all the vitamins you'll need.

Supplement your daily intake with some fresh fruit and some nuts

Have some variety with lean red meat, fish or chicken in the diet. along with vegies and garden fresh salads and you'll be a picture of health.

Biggest problem is too many people do NOT allocate the time to eat properly, and exercise regularly.

Video games, television and convenience foods (should I mention the internet too) are the biggest culprits in the increasing numbers of obesity in Australia.

Summer's coming.

Get out and take a walk in the sunshine.

Walk past a greengrocer and buy a fresh apple, a banana or a pear.

Even grab a carrot. Eat it raw.

The solution really is quite simple. It's just that we get sucked into all the advertising crap for processed foods, and comfort lifestyles, we neglect to do the basics we should be doing.....

eating properly and exercising regularly.

so endeth my rant :pimp:

I take Magnesium, and Berocca is a MUST have following a night on the ale, amazing how it helps the next day.....

I also have a daily intake of anti-stress syrup. Consists of water, yeast and hopps, generally in 330ml bottles......

Don't rely on too many pills and vitamins. Your body will become dependant on them and your immune system will grow weak and 1 day you won't take your vitams and you're gunna feel it.

I think Rob Miss Dion likes usung his big vitamin B pills as supositries!
